NIN fans vs Ministry fans

I’m a huge, longtime fan of NIN and Ministry. I’ve checked out the four new NIN songs and I’m not a fan of any of them (or Reznor’s soundtracks and HTDA, for that matter). It’s funny, cause I’ve noticed that if someone posts on NIN’s facebook page that they don’t like the new material, they get their ass reamed out by “true” NIN fans ("It’s brilliant! It’s his best ever! What do you expect, The Downward Spiral Part 2? You’re not a real NIN fan!). Shit like that. But if Al releases a so-so Ministry album, the fans on here tell it like it is. If Reznor released a substandard album along the quality of Relapse, I would bet that the dicksuckers that are drooling over his new album would rave how great it is. I’ve noticed this same trend among other artists I’ve always listened to (Einsturzende Neubauten, Peter Gabriel), whose latest releases I’ve found to be boring and uninspired. It’s nice to see that Ministry fans can tell the vintage wine from the piss-mixed Kool Aid that Al sometimes serves out.

Yeah, i’ve been a fan of both for a long time too, i agree NIN fans seem to have the blinkers on and can’t see anything wrong with Trent’s output for the most part, but sometimes Ministry “fans” are the total opposite, they can’t enjoy anything after Barker left, and in some cases since Twitch, hahaha. To each his, or her, own, i suppose.

Official Facebook pages are almost always breeding grounds for idiocy and sycophancy, no matter what the subject might be. I bet that if you posted on the official Ministry page that you think “99 Percenters” sucked, you’d probably be shouted down, too.

Just my $0.02.

Yeah, I kind of thought that’s what the original poster was going to mention.

NIN fan: If you don’t absolutely LOVE everything Trent does and think Trent is God, then you are an idiot and a poser!

MINISTRY fan (or at least Prongs board archetype): If you don’t absolutely DETEST everything Al does post-Paul and think Al is a complete washed-up hack and a vile prick, then you are an idiot and a poser!

Welcome to the board.

Since about 2004-5, Al, for the most part, got stuck in a thrashy, political state and never really went anywhere with it, and has essentially made the same record like five times. I think that’s what really bugs the majority of us. For someone renowned for pushing the envelope and doing CRAZY new things, he’s not doing a damn thing outside his comfort zone and personal/political agendas. And it wouldn’t be so bad if it at least sounded great, but aside from the occasional GREAT Mikey solo or whatever, it’s all the same ultra-trebly metal with flipbook drums.

I like that Reznor’s not putting out albums that sound like carbon copies of one another, but he’s gotten too far from what NIN should sound like. It’s hard for me to describe, but as an example, Front Line Assembly just had a new album out. It sounds like a FLA album, but it doesn’t sound exactly like the last several FLA albums, which all seem to have their own identity. The new NIN album sounds like it should have been released as a side project. On the flip side, I like most of Ministry’s post-Barker releases (except Relapse), even though Al tens to beat a dead horse with them. There are several good songs among the turds.

but who wud win n a fight of t rex vs godzila ?? ?

I have enjoyed all Ministry’s stuff, except With Sympathy and certain songs on Relapse weren’t very good at all. Most of the lyrics were a fucking disgrace. However, as much as i loved NIN, Trent is just boring these days, there is no excitement there at all. At least Al still has balls and puts out some crazy music. I know Trent was never about madness in the way Ministry was, but Trent’s just so low key these days.

I saw NIN last week again and was blown away, i was all ready to give him another chance after having hated The Slip and stopping HDTA and Ghosts part of the way through my first and only listen. They were just… nothing. So fuckibg boring. Then i listened to the new album yesterday morning and was so underwhelmed i decided straight away that listening to it a second time just is not worth my time.

While i agree to an extent that Al’s wasting his talents sometimes, his music interests me and is fun, while Trent’s bores the living fuck out of me and is just as much the same old shit as people say Ministry’s recent stuff is. There’s nothing remotely new there except for that upbeat track whose name i forget now. The rest is pretty much “been there, heard it all before”. A listen to the 3 new Ministry tracks that i’ve heard so far shows that Al’s taken more of a chance than Trent, but will he be lauded for it? Of course not, because Trent’s “an auteur”, if you believe the hype, while Al’s apparently just a hack.

Sorry if i sound like i hate NIN, i actually love them, i’m just disappointed with his last few releases and am annoyed with the constant fucking praise he gets for pressing a couple of buttons.

If the recording dates for Ministry albums on wikipedia are accurate, they rather neatly explain the unevenness of most of Al’s recent efforts - provided that you know that Al almost always goes into the studio without so much as a demo… Though, Al’s decision to switch to a crappy drum machine (probably as a partial consequence of fighting with Rey Washam and Max Brody) didn’t help. But the drum machine’s been given the boot for the next album, so that’s a relief at least.

What the heck kind of stupid ass question is that? Godzilla is like T-Rex on 5 billion kinds of steroids. He’s a million times bigger, first off, and he has a NUCLEAR BREATH that he uses as a crazy ass death beam. He also has many other powers, and can go underwater and, okay, seriously, I’ve only scratched the surface.

T-Rex trying to bit Godzilla on the ankle would hardly even be felt by the giant armored beast. He’d be like, “Hey, WTF is that? Oh, hi, little fella” [[[KICK]]] and punt him like a ragdoll flying into the sun.

I’m just sayin’ . . . let’s keep these discussions reasonable and grown up like, okay?

Good question. Trent has been looking like a GI Joe these days and Al like an anorexic carnival freak, so Trent would probably clean Al’s clock. Not that Trent would ever do that. He has too much of a guycrush on Al.

I’m a long time fan of both. Fans can be a bit ridiculous at times. If you were to release a album that was completely different than the previous, you’re accused of selling out to a certain crowd. If you continue to release the same type of album over and over again, you’re cashing in on your own success.

I’d say let the artist decide what they want to do. As a fan you’re not obligated to like 100% of what an artist does. You can still be a fan of the band and not own/like every single release.

Personally I find the newer NIN releases to be of higher quality than the recent Ministry releases, but that’s just me.

Yeah, Trent’s looked in pretty good shape lately. I wouldn’t wanna fight him. I’d rather just yell “fag” at him from a distance and then point at the guy next to me if Trent turns around and looks at us.

But could Godzilla beat up the Shogun Warriors?

I wonder if Trent now kicks sand in the faces of the people who laughed at his marching band uniform in school? He’s a big bastard these days. Any reviews i read of the Belfast show seemed to mainly talk about his big sweaty muscles.

But could Godzilla beat up the Shogun Warriors?

See, now THIS can make for an intelligent adult discussion.
And yeah, it would be a Hell of a fight!

I loved and hated my Shogun warriors. I loved them because they were totally badass and had spring-loaded heads and hands and such that would fire off and fly across the room. I hated that eventually my Shogun warriors were weaponless bitchbots with no hands.

I discovered PHM and Psalm at the same time back in the early 90’s. I never liked 100% of either nor do I like 100% of what came before them or after them. There are always some tracks that stand out above others when we all wish for more killer and less filler. With that being said…

I also do not have a complete Ministry or NIN library. Today, we have a choice: we can buy by song vs. having to pay for the filler. While others make the choice to refuse to pay at all but still listen.

Does that influence increased quality of artist output by placing pressure on them to create for their fans to feed their bank accounts or does it not influence the artists and they continue to create what they want to create for themselves? Appeal to the masses and make money when the fans turn up to see them play live or not appeal to the masses and the fans do not show up to the live show resulting in the musicians not getting paid. Hmmm.

Al still rules over Trent you Al haters…

Some of you are massive faggots and this thread is proving it one post at a time.

Let me be one of the few to break the chain for a moment:

• Terminator vs. Robocop

This should separate the boys from the men.

Dammit.
It pains me to say it, but I’d probably give the edge to Terminator.
