Maybe not that special to some, but this being unearthed made the teenager in me smile. Wish I could’ve had these 15 years ago. I’d have worn this out listening to it.

I was part of the group that funded this release 
These were sold to the NIN community over at echoingthesound.org, by Danny Hyde, who helped work on these mixes. They are outtakes from Fixed (1992) and Further Down The Spiral (1995). The short Gave Up mixes were different variations commissioned for the film The Young Americans.
NIN and Coil are both in my list of all time favorite bands, so this was a dream come true.
Closer (Unrecalled) is quite possibly the best remix I’ve ever heard.

the first five cuts are excellent.
I like his nonchalant Danny Hyde was in going this far in responding to fan inquiries. He could have held on to these remixes and worked with Reznor on an eventual release. Given how much music is still in the vaults, it’s probably for the best he cut out the middleman. Good on him.
I like the similarities to the existing Further Down remixes and the extra elements that were stripped out for those give them a new dimension. I don’t see any reason Closer (Precursor) was chosen over this remix, for example.
