In 1992, Nine Inch Nails released the “Broken” EP. It was followed in 1993 by a short film, roughly 20 minutes in length, known as the “Broken Movie.” Filmed and directed by Peter Christopherson, the movie wove Broken’s four music videos together via a violent “snuff film,” and included its own video for the song “Gave Up” as its conclusion. Due to its extreme graphic content, the Broken Movie was never officially released (and likely never will be), but was leaked as a bootleg which became heavily traded on VHS in the 1990’s, and in recent years via the internet.
This release contains the Broken Movie, in its uncensored entirety, in DVD format with the highest video quality that will likely ever be available. Enjoy, and happy new year’s.

WARNING: THIS FILM CONTAINS EXTREMELY GRAPHIC CONTENT!
This disc is distributed as a .img disc image file (essentially the same thing as an iso file). It can be opened from your computer and played back like a physical DVD. It can also be burned as a DVD with programs like Toast (Mac) or Nero (PC).
where i think he benefited from the leaking of those 3 or so songs early from “with teeth” i don’t see what he’d have to gain from leaking 2 things that almost every nin fan has already seen in about the same quality. but it is nice that someone put them to dvd cause i was way too lazy to ever do it myself.
recommending a Torrent client for ease of download, and then a post from Rob:

I can only offer help for Mac users, but in case it helps anyone:
To view it on your computer as intended (as a DVD with menus and such), double-click the .img file and it will mount as a drive. Then open DVD Player (make sure you don’t have a physical DVD in your computer) and it should load automatically.
To burn it, use Toast (preferably Toast 7, the latest version), choose “Disc Copy” and select “disc image.” Drag the .img file into the Toast window to select it, make sure you have “DVD DL” selected in the lower right corner next to the “burn” button. Now insert a blank DVD+R DL and burn away. That should make a disc that will be viewable in pretty much any DVD player, which is the best way to experience it.
Happy holidays, everyone.

A three-disc version for use with single-layer DVD burners will be uploaded around new year’s, along with another special gift…
The reason he’s leaking them is because Closure’s official release has been, and likely will be, tied up in legal issues with Malm. And the Broken movie was never really looking at an official release either. Pretty cool of him to do this.
Yup. Pretty fucked up. Fits in with the music well. Also consistent with the general decay/sexual perversity/homoeroticism motif of NIN at the time. No wonder Leary found Trent to be so depressed…
I think I liked the whole bootlegged feel about the broken movie to begin with on vhs… ie. that it was something that was never released properly. Hmm… I wonder what those handful of people did with their original copies anyway? Imagine if one of those went up on ebay… then again no-one would be able to tell it aside from the hoards of boots that go up there.
Anyway… I like this new copy don’t get me wrong, it is certainly interesting “oh, so that’s what that blurry/fuzzy thing in the fridge is!” hah…
I don’t much care for the inclusion of “help me I am in hell” though… that should have stayed blank. Kind of like the guy had passed out for a short while or something… I dunno… that vid just doesn’t fit in there for me.
I was thinking about if it was made today… it would have to be filmed on a mobile phone camera… how underground
the blanks in broken movie were left in several places, so trent could identify which friend of his leaked the vid, trent stated that is was “gibby”, i wonder is that gibby haynes. so help me i’m in hell is sorta supposed to be there, after all.
Yeah I read that too… I dunno… the only copies I’ve ever seen have help me… blanked… just seems like it’s supposed to be that way. Interesting that gibby would be the ONLY person to share it… I heard there were like 20 copies… eh I suppose 20 isnt that many, maybe the others were just more trust-worthy
the guy with the flies… just doesnt fit into broken IMO… eh maybe… it doesnt have any of those cuts to the “snuff” film though does it? Like wish, how it cuts back and forth sometimes…
