Nick Oliveri Facing 15 Years

http://www.nme.com/news/queens-of-the-stone-age/58618

anyone hear about this? seems like a ridiculous amount of time for the “crime”.

I think that’s sad. He obviously has issues stemming back from when he was discharged from Queens of the Stone Age for domestic abuse in 2004.

That band is nothing like it was without him by the way. The album after ‘Songs For the Deaf’ was weak and I lost interest after that.

Talented dude but obviously had demons he was not confronting. I can relate/

It’s the kick up the arse he’s needed for a long time. I’m good friends with people who’ve worked with him, tattooed him, etc. Complete and utter party animal, and a fun and generous guy to boot.

But best kept at arm’s length.

Fuck, then I read Homme considered ending QOTSA once Nick left.

I wish he had.

agreed. Its a bit like the Ministry situation, just never the same after Nick left.

Yeah. Gotta miss that Nick Barker! [laugh]

i donno, the album after nic left, LtP, is actually my fave QotSA album from start to finish. really interesting stuff on that one… and era Vulgaris was pretty cool…

and he wont be getting the full 15, thats a worst case scenario kinda deal, however, the guy needs some serious help, beating on anyone, or using your body to impose your will on somone you are in a relationship with… thats clearly a sign of issues…

You’re kidding. Rated R defaecates on the. Songs for the Deaf was the beginning of the end. As good as they were going to get.

Lullabies definite had it’s moments, but there was too much filler. Homme doesn’t seem to know how to reduce a song down to it’s best elements. More and more the weirdo sort of things they did which were used to great effect with subtlety have been overemphasised and seem to take precendence over most other elements within the songs they’ve written since SFTDeaf.

Would’ve figured he’d have learned the first time when he was booted from his band and his career going nowhere. Sentence seems about right since he’s done it before. And the QOTSA albums definitely changed after he left, but I wouldn’t say it was negative. But the band was never the same.

That sentence is way out of whack with what he’s done. The only serious offence here is the domestic abuse, which seemingly was the case in QOTSA and could be again here with this case. Oliveri is wild man and a great live performer; a genuine rocker, so it all this stuff is not surprising but a good bit inevitable. QOTSA turned to shit almost immediately without him. Rated R (deluxe edition) is a great album, all you need from QOTSA. Hope he doesn’t get that ridiculous sentence (he probably wont) and stops wailing on women.

There’s no way he’ll get 15 years for that. Year, if anything. More probation than jail time. Just trying to scare and make an example of him.

From all accounts I heard, he’s a bit of a charmer. Seems to actually get along really well with women and they seem to like him, even if they don’t know who the hell he is. Decent effort for someone who looks like they just stepped out of Deliverance.

It’s funny. Some people I know who have done some ridiculously abusive things to women (physically and emotionally) often get along with them really well most of the time and have heaps of female friends. It’s really odd. They seem to only be abusive to the ones they’ve been dating. I can understand the pathology behind it. Guess Nick’s just one of those blokes.

Like I said… this really seems like the kick up the arse he’s long needed. Hope the judge is a broad.

He wouldn’t let her leave but he let her call the police?
Ooookay.

Man’s gotta have principles…

Hahahaha!!!

Trying to read this forum on my cell phone . . . I thought it said “Nick Oliveri F**king 15 Year Olds”.

… stupid fucker. I want to see Kyuss Lives! in Dec. =/

oh and per arguement above, the best QOTSA LP is the first one, w/o Nick so whatever.

Yeah, the key phrase is “UP TO 15 Years”. How much to the limit they push that depends on a bunch of things (judge, priors, etc.). They’ll probably just plea bargain it down to something not as extreme.

To play conservative Nazi for a bit though . . . . he’s got (allegedly) a bit of a violent history, and he had illegal firearms and illegal drugs in his possession and was (allegedly) resisting arrest.

That gun, by the way . . . . was noted as LOADED, too. I’m not passionate about QOTSA either way, so I really don’t care whether he ever plays a guitar again, but if I read all these “facts” about a neighbor of mine, I’d want him locked away for a long time.

So we’ve all had those days where you want to fuck someone up because Life is serving you a nice platter of shit. Grab your nuts and move on, been there done that, and told the judge he wouldnt have to worry about seeing my sorry ass anymore. Best move I ever made. And anyone who has to hit a chick to feel like more of a man, needs a nice roadhouse ass kickin.

Hahahahahaha, suck shit, I saw them when they came to Melbourne!

Only thing: very disappointed they did not play Catamaran or Demon Cleaner.

well Catamaran is a cover actually… and Alfredo isn’t in the band (his band Yawning Man did it originally).

No Demon Cleaner? that’s a bit more of a surprise but I suppose that was Reeder’s baby.
