hands down winner. rudy ray moore.
wait. was he in any airplane movies? this OLD brain don’t work too good no more no more…sheeeeeet.
The nicest would have to have been Alice Cooper. A genuinely warm and incredibly sharp witted individual. VERY clued in about things in general. His head was in the right place. He sent me a condolence card after my dad’s funeral some years back. I still have it.
The guy’s pretty dope, from what I heard. Used to be a radio DJ around here for a while.
Alice (Vince Furnier) went to Cortez High School with my dad here in Phoenix back in the mid-60’s. They’ve actually kept in touch over the years, usually talking on the phone maybe once or twice a year. Still, I’ve actually never met the guy, and the one time he came over to my parents’ house (1990), I was out of town. Ah well.

Clint Mansell. He was a mate of my brothers back in his PWEI days, very normal, very humble and down to earth.[cool]

screw you. [:P]
Good topic, Peligro!
Man, some of you guys have had some way more interesting encounters with celebrities than I have.
I’ve had several chances to approach celebrities, but just decided that I didn’t have much to say that to them other than “oh, you’re so great!” or “dude, you suck”.
My closest brush with fame was that Cindy Crawford was indeed my Sunday school teacher, though I was very young and don’t remember it at all.
I approached Paul Barker at the USSA show to say hi. I ended up trying to converse then realized I was pretty drunk and would probably come off as pretty annoying, so I ended the conversation and basically said that I admired the mans work, shook his hand and let him be. Real nice guy despite that I probably came off as a drunken fanboy.
A friend of mine who is not a bullshitter met Mike Patton once when he was staying in Olympia. Apparently he was eating dinner while watching a scat-porn when some scene girl said “eww, that is gross!” His response was something like, “What, you’ve never seen someone eat shit before?!”
Michael Moore is a dick. Asked him about his modus operandi and he got all defensive, signed my book (which was a gift) with a quick scrawl and then moved me along the line.
Had the chance to meet the Melvins backstage after a new years eve show, but I was already wasted and didn’t want to make an ass of myself in front of the Melvins, besides, what would I say?
Met Andrea Hays, the girl who played Heidi the waitress in Twin Peaks at a country/western bar in north Seattle. She was a sweetheart.
Thats about it for me.
The meanest (or scariest) would have been Dennis Hopper or maybe John Phillips (from the Mamas And Pappas) - who asked me if I’d ever smelt a vagina before (this was when I was only 11 years old mind you). A total and utter creep and waste of space. My dad threatened to beat him senseless.
Was it Hopper or the other guy who asked you if you’d smelled vagina before?
If you are saying it was Hopper I totally believe you! We’ve all seen Hopper play Frank Booth in “Blue Velvet” with such memorable lines as “Mommy, baby wants to FUCK!” and “you ever been to pussy heaven?”. While I know that Frank Booth is a fictional character the story goes that after reading the script to “Blue Velvet” Hopper supposedly begged David Lynch to let cast him as Frank saying: “I’ve got to play Frank! I AM Frank!”
That would certainly put things into perspective, so I gotta know Amlux, was it Hopper?

That’s awesome… and talk about bad timing. [:)]
I’ve always found it ironic that “No More Mr. Nice Guy” was written by a pretty nice guy.
Was it Hopper or the other guy who asked you if you’d smelled vagina before?
It was ‘Pappa’ John Phillips (or at least that’s what his friends call him) who said that. Yeah, the guy was a freak. Passed away some years ago too. Good riddance to bad rubbish as they say. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.
Apparently, in the early 80’s some teenage girl was raped at a party he was hosting and everyone there was too stoned on coke to even notice. Or at least, so the story goes.
I think that pretty sums up the Hollywood scene in one go. Trust me, those people are scum.

Believe me, Frank Booth has nothing on Dennis Hopper.
“Purple Rain” was on last night, and I remembered that I once met Morris Day.
He was phenomenally underwhelmed by the studio I was interning in at the time.

Mike showalter and Michael ian black from the state really aren’t that funny by themselves but on the state they were great!!! that show was great!! I wish u could find it some where or they released it on dvd. “I wanna dip my balls in it!!!”
Harmony korin. I’ve never met him but i’ve seen a couple of interviews and i can’t stand that guy!! pompous, full of himself, little rich boy, no talent hack!!! I mean how stupid was “kids”? And all Gummo was, was a shitty exploitation flick! He makes me angry! [mad]
Late,

Sort of the same absurd humor…
The thing is Mikey thinks he’s a standup comic now and he’s just not funny, dunno about Ian Black…he seems ok
As for Korine, he wrote Kids, he didn’t direct it. He’s pretentious but I like his films, haven’t seen his newest…
I just read an interview with Michael Ian Black at avclub.com. He’s very aware that “smug asshole” is his schtick.
i ran across david lynch last year alone in a dark alley which i was using to urinate last year in chicago. that was surreal. he was extremely pleasant and polite, we bullshitted for a couple minutes and i got a pic with him. i still feel kinda bad for shaking his hand.
i’ve met around 40 or 50 old timer baseball hall of famers when i was younger as my family spent a ton of time in cooperstown over summers. most were very pleasant (i think the old timers are way more appreciative of the fans vs the new stars). brooks robinson, fergie jenkins, and joe morgan were the nicest guys. i did once witness willie mccovey push a 10 year old girl down out of his way one. what a fuck.
met a ton of musicians in the rock and industrial genres over the years but nobody i was ever starstruck by. most everyone seemed like normal dudes to me. no good stories really but manson was trying really hard to fuck my buddies girlfriend after a show back when they first started which was amusing. he was trashed and seemed like a prick while the rest of the guys seemed totally normal and down to earth. come to think of it that girl was probably like 15 or 16 back then which is even more fucked.
I saw Robert Mugabe, the Zimbabwe dictator, in a supermarket. Completely surreal… and disgusting. He was in my town for a international conference, and decided to go shopping with his “crew”. I can assure you, they weren’t buying cheap things… Completely surreal…
Zakk Wylde is a dick.
Penn & Teller show in NYC - 90’s:
Howard Stern & Ralph Cirella …shook Howard’s hand. Very nice & TALL.
Robert Vaughn from The Man From U.N.C.L.E. TV Show. Quick Hi.
Saw Mia Farrow on Wednesday with her son at the all star baseball parade in NYC.
probably more but can’t remember right now.
Metallica (Twice on the Justice Tour)
Jason - Cool as hell. Just a regular guy.
Kirk - Talked Misfits records. Not as laid back as Jason, but no attitude.
Lars - Just got an autograph.
James - Just got an autograph.
Jimmy Gestapo (Murphy’s Law)
Talked tattoos. We both have work from the same artist. This guy is a blast to be around.
Joe Nunez (Soulfly)
He used to play in a band called Fleshold. The played a couple of shows with a friend’s band.
Instead of drinking/smoking before a show, he did push-ups. Seemed like a good guy.
Geoff Tate (Queensryche)
Was surprised he smoked. Don’t remember what we talked about. Wasn’t too ‘Rock Star’. Got autographs from him and some other band members.
William Tucker R.I.P. (Ministry, Pigface, The Final Cut)
One of the nicest, most down to Earth people I have ever encountered. Met him after a Pigface show in Green Bay, WI. We talked about life, guitars, Genesis P-Orridge and his drug preferences…
At some point Chris’ name came up and William told me that “Chris Connelly is my bitch”.
He meant it in the best possible way. Sad that he is gone.
En Esch (KMFDM, Pigface, Slick Idiot)
Carried him on my shoulders at a Pigface show in Milwaukee, WI. Intense guy.
Jon Fuller & Kyle Stevenson (Helmet)
Used to skateboard with Jon. Kyle went to the same church when we were kids.
Before they moved to CA we jammed a few times doing Ministry, Pigface, and Skiny Puppy covers.
Both cool guys.
Mike Bordin (Faith No More)
Conversed with him briefly when he was walking through the crowd after opening for Voivod.
Nice guy. I believe Soundgarden opened that show.
Martin Atkins (Pigface, Ministry, Murder Inc.)
Met him briefly before the Pigface show in Green Bay, WI. Was nice enough to talk to a friend and I before the show. Just general banter.

You win, man. Best celeb encounters, bar none.
I have never met any famous people before but i did offer Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys my Gatorade once after a game he didnt take it and i was bummed the entire day. I also saw Salma Hayek at an airport in Mexico City she was looking hot.
Ms. Hayek looking hot? That’s a given.
