YAY. didn’t even know preseason had started. doubly good news.
Late,

Yep. This is my favorite time of the year. The NFL is underway, MLB playoffs on the horizon and hockey is getting warmed up. Perfect.

Plus I’m pretty excited for this years Stars team. I want to thank Boston for being stupid enough for trading us Seguin lololol xDDD… gee thanks, he’s only one of the best young forwards in the game if not the best youngster out there. Period. This years team is loaded with young talent, theyre going to be the team to reckon with in the next 2-3 years.

So the Rangers vs the Kings. Cool NY is in it! Al must be pissed about the Hawks!

He’s not the only one - that game last night almost made me sick. The 'Hawks played the first four games of that L.A. series like any NHL team in mid-season form, and the last three like the reigning champions. They never should have put themselves in that position to begin with, though.

Given the fact that they only finished third in their division (with 100+ points…sheesh!), their essentially getting the bronze medal for the season is a better finish than I expected. And their style of bowing out was much less of a knife in the guts than what happened to, say, the Sharks or the Penguins.

Stupid Rangers beat my Canadiens. >=(

I was hoping beyond hope for a Blackhawks / Canadiens final, since Chicago certainly has some past finals losses against the Habs to make up for.

Though it could happen in 2015. I think Montreal will improve in the off-season, and the Blackhawks have some prospects that should make them into even more of a lightning-speed skill team (see esp. Teuvo Teravainen.)

I hate the rangers. I love All hockey but there are some teams I just really don’t like. The redwings top the list along with the rangers and blackhawks. I’m rooting for the Kings for sure but I would be rooting for them anyway since they’re a cali team. I don’t mind the Kings. Their team has been good for years now, but I absolutely loathe their fans. Their fans are complete assholes.

I second your emotion re: Kings fans, but in the spirit of fairness, I find a lot of “my” Blackhawks fanbase to be unbearable also.

In fact, it just seems like you could pick any NHL team and I would have problems getting along with the people who can afford the really good seats and the $450 custom jerseys. I’m not a natural ally of Sally Soccer Mom and Dick Day Trader types, no matter what team crest they put on their chests.

But there is a reason anarchist noise-niks like myself are not members of the NHL brass. If it were up to me, I’d probably make the first 20 rows at any stadium reserved seating for children and dogs.

On a final side note: any other hockey enthusiasts notice how often “NWO” gets played before faceoffs in various NHL arenas? The royalties from that must have funded at least the last two Ministry albums.

Never heard any Ministry in Montreal. Pantera’s Walk and Metallica’s For Whom The Bell Tolls get played alot.

Too bad there are no Quebec “hometown heroes” that get played at the Bell Centre…but I guess Gorguts or Voivod are not exactly considered as “a good day out with the family” type of music.

LA and NY showdown. Oh boy, Nielson Ratings are gonna be through the roof due to the sheer amount of bandwagoners and casuals those 2 cities produce. I’m sure Bettman is having a boner right now.

Would have preferred to see Montreal vs Chicago though.

Ah yes, where would we be without Bettman…the only NHL commissioner to preside over THREE “work stoppages”, isn’t he?

L.A. / N.Y. should be the most lopsided final in a while, and while it may give the NHL a smidgen more exposure in these mega-markets, it will have nowhere near the level of intensity as Chicago / Boston 2013 or the sheer hatred between Vancouver / Boston in 2011.

You get along fine with me and I have a $450 Scott Niedermayer jersey, my wife has a $450 Dustin Penner jersey (Xmas gifts) and when we go we sit no farther than 15 rows back behind the home goalie (Of Course we only go maybe twice a year now that the kid is here). I can’t stand the LA fan base because as a generalization they are all wannabe macho street tuffs that want to fight over anything and ever thing. They all think they’re in some sort of gang or something.

As bad a rap as the ducks get for being a Disney team there is one thing that Disney does well and that’s market to families and thankfully the new owners have kept that tradition going. I was always a Devil’s fan and never gave the Ducks two thoughts, but once they got Scott Niedermayer I was all about the Ducks and then the atmosphere that was at the arena was phenomenal everybody was nice to each other even fans for the other team (unless it was the Kings then those fans still wanted to fight) But I used to go to the Kings and the devils’s games when the devil’s were in town and I can’t tell you how much the atmosphere is different it’s damn near a different sport! So I have nothing but respect for the Ducks, that and they obviously know talent when they see it cause they were able to sign Nied!

I mean there is obviously rivalry and a sense of pride with the teams and people definitely talk shit but at no time do I think anybody ever thinks they’re going to get their ass kicked for wearing the wrong logo.

Yeah, at the Pond they used to play it immediately after the National Anthem which always made me chuckle because N.W.O. is the complete opposite of the National Anthem when it comes to patriotism.

I should have worded my spiel better - I think what I meant was that I dislike people who have all that good stuff and yet take it for granted, which again are (mostly) the suburban stereotypes / pod people I was mentioning.

Ducks also had the services of Teemu Selanne for many years, who I think definitely worked out well as a ‘role model’ player or, like you say, draw for families and such.

On the opposite side of that (and back to the Kings) - did you catch any of the Olympic hockey coverage this year? I found it more than a little lame that Slava Voynov was calling out his own teammate (Jonathan Quick) for “intentionally dislodging his net” during a key moment in the Russia / U.S. game. Amazing they can still work together at all.

Maybe it’s a fake version , like the one they used to play sometimes for NWO faction in WCW.

No it’s definitely the proper Ministry recording - it’s timed, though, to be pumped over the p.a. just for a few seconds before a faceoff, though, so you never get into the very non-patriotic lyrics.

That was an epic series between the Blackhawks and Kings. Incredible guts and skill from both teams. Just when one team seemed to have the momentum, the other team would come back. Fitting that it went into OT for Game Seven.

The histrionic Chicago media is calling it the most awful pro sports failure in the city since the famous ‘Steve Bartman’ baseball incident (for those who are unfamiliar, when a spectator at Wrigley Field reached out to grab a playable ball in the outfield, which arguably ended up costing the Cubs that playoff series.)

I have to disagree though, even though it was painful to watch the final goal - not a lot of the pundits were predicting Chicago to repeat as champions, not many even expected them to survive the first-round matchup against St. Louis. Seeing them being a perennial playoff threat is a hell a lot more satisfying than watching the miserable years they were having just a decade earlier…

But I’m still going to buy my German Shepherd an L.A. Kings ‘Bleacher Creature’ doll (they make a Dustin Brown likeness, I believe) to chew on.

Ahh, I gotcha. “Those look at me” people cause “I’m better than you cause all my great shit is no big thang”
I don’t like those people either.

No doubt. Teemu definitely had an excellent PR firm. either that or he genuinely is a nice guy.

I didn’t catch too much of this years Olympic hockey. Quick never struck me as a goalie that would intentional kick the net off the moorings But I do remember seeing the net come off quite a few times now that you mention it. I hate it when goalies do that. even if it’s my team just suck it up and get scored on or be better. I’m sure quick and voynov are cool with each other and understand that it’s all business when they’re opposites
