hoo hoo. I heard The Slip recently and boy, save for two tracks I could’ve left that one alone. I like glitch but it’s too boring to me, and I like NIN

Agreed, not big on this one, and I like almost anything NIN related. well, did. Still haven’t listened to ghosts or the last remix disc though. Relistened to yr zero recently, like it a lot more now then when it first came out.

as for nin, i love all the main halos (phm, broken, ts, fragile, wt, yz), not fond of the remix halos mainly (except for fixed, that one is awesome), ghosts were so-so, as for slip, well… yeah it’s weak, kind of… no wonder it’s free!

i mean, half the stuff on it sounds like very good quality demos, some tracks feel like ghosts leftovers (demon seed actually is a ghosts leftover), 1.000.000 is too much like survivalism, etc. and it has well, good first half and then dissolves into almost three instrumentals in a row…

so he had these track blueprints, and probably thought, fuck it, let’s release it for free. it was also a good third test of new ways of media distribution over internet (after ghosts and that saul williams album).

The physical release of The Slip is available for pre-order now, btw. It’s gonna have a DVD of all that rehearsal footage that’s been popping up on the internets.

Some good stuff in that interview as well. I like how he acknowledges the influence of Skinny Puppy and Ministry and Front 242. I think a lot of guys in his position would try to pretend that they’re true originals without pointing out the guys that did it first.

Yeah Reznor’s always been honest about things like that.
It’s always irritated me slightly when people say the old “NIN ripped off Ministry” thing as he’s never tried to hide the fact that they were an influence, often stating it openly. Plus he truly made it his own sound, which is more than can be said for most…

I just got that new saul williams cd trent did… it’s excellent… they finally released it on cd with 5 bonus tracks…
as far as slip goes i like it. people may put trents later music down, but at least he keeps pushing himself to change and not re-release the same sound over and over

Word. The last words I hope to hear from Trent in his work is “NININ, doin’ it again…”

A treat for the freaks?

Good stuff.

He better not ever mention his band name in any of his songs.

He let Tori Amos do that for him.

He let Tori Amos do that for him.

Trent sang back up on “past the mission” on “Under the pink.”
Which is probably why she sang his album title (pretty hate machine) on “Caught a light sneeze.” Plus, it is a great song! as is much of her catalogue up until the CD “From The Choir Girl Hotel.”
