Supposedly there is a Q&A happening today with the members of Tool regarding the follow up to (the brilliant) Lateralus.
Can’t remember if this is in store or over the net (believe it’s the latter tho’) but should be interesting for those of us into that sort of thing.
Would be grateful if anyone here has any info on the follow up album - am definitely hungry for news of any type. I had heard that Paul Barker was in some way involved with this album along with Robert Fripp and King Buzzo. This is probably just a rumour though…damn!!
It will be released on January 17th 2006 (there is some quasi-mystical significance regarding that date but the relevance escapes me right now) and is said to be in the vein of Lateralus but “heavier and more intense”.
Fantomas is said to have been a huge influence on this album. (whooopeee!!)
Damn that sounds fuckin awesome…though i’d doubt if Barker actually was involved…it’d definately blow my mind. What the hell would he do? Add some wierd programming in the background most likely.
It’s not like they’d ask our beloved Barker to play prog rock bass!!!
That’s awesome that they’ve drawn from Fantomas. Maybe they’ll finally shed their 90’s alterna-pop pretenses and go totally experimental.
Great, yeah I cant wait for new Tool. I have also heard repeated talk that its going to be their heaviest album yet, but then again that could mean the exact opposite of what we might be expecting. But fuck it cant wait. Barker on board!.. if that surmises [cool][cool][cool]
Hopefully they’ll put some actual songs on this album instead of just showing off how clever and talented they are (check it out, we can play in 7/12 time!).
I would like some more stuff like Undertow or Aenima. I didn’t pay $45 freakin’ bucks to see people painted blue doing gymnastics, I want to see Tool rocking the fuck out!
New album’s meant to have a ‘different vocal approach’…whatever the hell that means. Patton-esque crooning/screeching???
Am actually looking forward to this one. Fripp really has contributed to album. He has apparently created some guitar soundscape stuff. And Buzz also contributes, from what I have heard. Apparently, he is …like…the unofficial fifth member of the band now.
Holy new Tool album talk Batman! Sounds like a gas, Fantomasish, Barker, King Buzzo? Oh my! Any new Barker would be fucking cool, even if hes just producing or something, he needs to get his ass back in the loop in some way. [sly][cool]
I heard, like over a year ago back when they were finishing up the Lateralus tour, that they were taking direct influence from Meshuggah and I think Slayer. At least that’s what Daney said, maybe he was just talking about their drummers though. But it would be pretty cool if he was talking about stylistically overall.
