Too bad Al didn’t use a real drummer. This is way better drum sounds.

I’m cautiously optimistic. At least he isn’t doing those weird vocals like on the previous two releases.
Saw these guys last night.
It was very professional. It was similar to my experience seeing Helmet last summer. Very rigid mastery of the songs - not a lot of spontaneous energy. Then again, Prong are renowned for their grooooves and they delivered those in spades. I’m really only familiar with their 90’s albums so even the new material sounded very inspired by the “Cleansing” approach.
Turnout was less than 60 people, I think. Weren’t they once big names? It seemed the jaded metalheads in attendance hardly gave a shit even when they started into “Fist” and “Snap Your Fingers”. The most enthusiastic people there were their apparent girlfriends in the front snapping pictures every minute.
I’ve seen Prong a couple of times, and seen Tommy with Ministry quite a few times, he’s a great player. I actually bumped into him in bars before and after a couple of the Ministry shows and he’s a really nice guy. He took the time to sit with us and have a laugh, bought us beers and was generally just a really good guy. Last time i saw Prong the show was pretty empty too, and the show the following night in Dublin was cancelled due to lack of tickets sold. I’m hoping the next tour does better for him, can’t wait to hear the album!
Prong did some good things in the 90s. They should be more popular than they are I think. Though Victor w/Ministry was shit, he was able to pull off half decent metal material when he was frontman. Their line up mid to late 90s was class; he had Raven and Ted Parsons ffs. If they were around I’d def go see them.
; he had Raven and Ted Parsons ffs.
Yeah that is a pretty solid rhythm section.
I don’t like Prong but that’s pretty sad when someone like that gets such a piss poor turn out while someone like Korn is filling stadiums.
Don’t know much about Prong, but

THIS on Helmet. Helmet/Rollins Band/Sausage was the first show I ever paid to see as a teenager, and Helmet was insanely good. Nowadays, not so much. Very by the numbers and boring. That’s an unfortunately typical thing that happens when you replace everybody in the band but yourself, with few exceptions.
Agreed. What makes a band is chemistry live. If you remove the guys who helped make that happen what you get is guys playing those parts very mechanically.
Helmet w/o John Stanier and Prong w/o Ted Parsons are very much the same. They honestly lack that propulsion that they used to have.
That said, I think Helmet suffers worse, as their LPs post reform aren’t nearly as good. While Prongs last couple were still decent listens. Minus that shitty Remixxx record.
Sounds basically like every other Prong album I’ve heard.

Korn still fill up stadiums?Really?[:/]
Prong without Teddy=No Prong
Forgot in my first post to mention a lot of folks were there for opener Black Tusk (who destroyed, love that Georgia sludge metal sound). Their swag table had a line. Prong’s didn’t.
Not the biggest follower of Helmet either. Their first couple albums are really good listens and have this grittiness carried over from the AmRep scene coupled with Hamilton’s music school sensibilities. This aesthetic seemed lost at the performance I saw which was a celebration of the “Meantime” album. Maybe propulsion is a good word to use because there was very little of it.

Less than 60?! Fuck me.
I’m guessing 13th Planet made fuck all off these guys.
But 60 PEOPLE?!?!?! That’s fucking terrible.

There were three opening bands too, so it’s fair to say a percentage of the crowd were their entourages.
