I have just heard the newest single ‘Echoplex’ from NIN. I liked ‘Discipline’ and I like this, in fact I prefer this to ‘Discipline’ because it’s more Fragile sounding than WT. Lyrics are far better and I really like the ending of Echoplex.
before anyone says , ‘oh most NIN fans are dissapointed by TR’s new stuff’ I don’t care, I’ve always stuck to liking what sounds good to ME, from Motown to Underworld, Ned’s to Dolly parton…I like what I like.
and yea, Reznor has released some utterly shite material (the collector being the most cringeworthy) but the majority of his work I’ve enjoyed, these two latest releases being no exception…

After 5 listens I like “Echoplex” but not as much as “Discipline”. It’s slinky and cool but not as “gay disco” as “Discipline”.
I do like how Trent’s leaking these. I had expected it to be an E.P. that he was going to put out but now with 2 tracks out, it seems more likely it will be longer. Doesn’t sound like Year Zero II, so he’s obviously holding onto that idea for a future date or dropped it altogether (I hope not).

Why is “The Collector” cringeworthy if that piece of shit gay dance song “Discipline” is good?
I didn’t really care for The Collector as well. It was bland, generic, and easily comparable to the shit that plays on the radio 24/7. Personally though, I only was able to enjoy maybe half or less of With Teeth; I consider it pretty boring and (as I said before) bland. These two new songs are a bit similar to with teeth to me, which makes me a little skeptical, but i’d choose these two songs over Collector and a few others any day.

there are marked differences between the Collector and Discipline.
First and foremost, Discipline is very much like only in the sense of it’s disco, catchiness and that song I don’t mind, making it listenable.
The collector on the other hand, is just pure garbage, from the lyrics to the music, yes, lyrics aren’t great on discipline but it is saved through the music. The collector is bad in both ways period.
I like with teeth but ALWAYS skip getting smaller and the collector.
On a few more listens to ‘Echoplex’ it is growing on me more than discipline did, purely 'cos it’s more layered and lyrics are much better and sounds like it could have been on The Fragile.
but, again. I like both songs and am looking forward to seeing how these songs fit in with the rest of the new album

I’m a bigger NIN fan now after WT and YZ than I was before. I prefer the less whiny Trent. I think musically TDS and the Fragile are amazing, but listening to either one of those albums make me want to take handfuls of various opiates.
