On a semi-related note: NIN reissues are now shipping. broken arrived in the mail today. It’s a very nice presentation: the single-sided 12" EP, the pack in 7" physical/suck single, extensive liner notes/photos from that era, and some reproductions of marketing materials. The blank side of the EP has some irregular etchings, I looked and it appears to be various lyrics strung together. I’ll need a magnifying glass and better lighting to get better details.
Got my physical component for Add Violence today. It’s in the form of schematics for the machine on the cover of the record. WAY better than the black glitterbomb that came with the last one.
So, it’s not a mess this time around? Should probably be getting mine soon then. I was pretty disappointed by the last “component”. I saw the warning, thought it was a bluff. My reaction was a genuine “what the fuck is this shit?”.
Still waiting for my copy of Not the Actual Events (ordered in December) and still waiting for a replacement sleeve for the damaged copy of Fragile-Deviations (I was told it would ship out “in a couple of days” back in July, then when I followed up told “within the next 10 working days” (that was July 25th)).
I’m going to wait and see if Add Violence gets sold through other retailers. The delays were bad enough, but the absolutely shitty and inadequate packaging of an expensive record ($80 for Deviations), was totally avoidable and just plain stupid. Have a look on echoingthesound, the nin message board if you want to learn more about how not to release a record. (I said it in the other thread, but, just to compare, the packaging of Necronomicon from Cleopatra was bulletproof; it was one of the best packed records I’ve seen.)
What are your thoughts on the Fragile Deviations in general?
I was expecting it to “deviate” a little further than it does. Some of it’s interesting and quite cool, but some of the songs are not very compelling sans-vocals.

The Fragile is one of my all time favorite albums, so this is gold for me. Most of the instrumental tracks are just that, but I really like the demo/alternate versions and little snippets of things they left out (ie the ending synth solo to “Somewhat Damaged”).
I think a few of the unreleased songs were supposed to have vocals, and I would really like to hear those.
I agree with the shipping/packaging. It’s unbelievable how badly they screwed this up. I’m still waiting on my replacement sleeve as well.
The black dust was included in the “physical component” of Not The Actual Events. I’d be very surprised if they put that stuff in the sleeve of a vinyl record!
Some people are reporting that it’s between the cellophane and outer jacket, and it leaves your black fingerprint marks when you take it out. No known issue of getting inside or on the record itself. Only some of them are like it, kind of cool, although I’d probably prefer a clean copy.
