New Moby Video by David Lynch

I’m not a big fan of Moby’s music, and this certainly isn’t the most intriguing piece of work Lynch has ever done, but I think the song and the video go together nicely and is worth a view:

I like (and still listen) to Moby’s stuff from the 90s. His recent albums not so much, but I wouldn’t say they’re terrible or anything. ‘Face It’ (Animal Rights) and ‘New Dawn Fades’ (I Like To Score) are brilliant.

Lynch is himself. I’ve seen some of his Dumbland stuff before and it was funny (“fucking helicopters!”).

I think they both could have done better with this collab but they do blend together reasonably well, though you could stick some vicious electronic or industrial music on that video too. The video makes me think of ‘The Trial’ novel. I know Lynch admires F Kafka so maybe there is something there.

Yeah, I really doubt they were “collaborating” so much, like as if they were in the same room bouncing ideas off each other… I’m guessing Moby submitted a track and then Lynch submitted an animation or vice versa and it was edited together.

Still I think there is something kind of haunting in the overall feel of the piece that sticks with you… A Kafka-esque postmodern sorta feel of loneliness and alienation…

Gawd I hope I don’t sound like a pompous dick…

I’ve watched the dumbland episdoes again (they’re all on youtube) and I think the last one is the best. The music is great:
