How crazy is that?!
Buzzo & Dale have long been huge fans of the LA Dodgers and for many years they have been the hardest working band in show biz (check out their tour dates over the last 20yrs) so it’s refreshing that one of the greatest heavy bands of our times that has time and time again been slept on and ignored by mass media and the music machine is finally getting mad props courtesy of one of America’s most powerful sports organisations.
The new album is called Basses Loaded and features a bunch of different bass players from bands like Red Cross, Butthole Surfers and Nirvana to name a few. The last song is even a cover of Take Me Out To The Ball Game.
The fact the MLB is streaming this album means this will reach a lot of people…and hopefully some will throw some money the Melvins way.
I love the new record. It is pretty will and bonkers as you’d expect. My fave tune straight off the bat (Waka Waka!) is Choco Plumber.
The MLB gets mad props from me for giving Melvins mad props.

Saw them a couple weeks ago, and they closed with the baseball song. Was pretty funny.
Dig the Melvins and especially their live show. Think I’ve seen them twice in Dallas, only 6-8 months apart. They’re indeed, touring machines.
That said, finding it difficult to check out this album. Seems like just a bunch of studio shit they’ve done over the years with different bassists. Not like it’s some kind of bass driven concept album. Also, when I heard Krist Novesselic played accordion on it I threw up in my mouth a little bit.
Haha…the Krist song is totally not what you expect it to sound like. I actually enjoy that time and it has a strange quality about it like I’ve heard it before.
Supposedly Dave Grohl contacted Melvins & Krist talking about how he wanted Melvins to make a record where they reimagine certain Nirvana material but with Dave & Krist in the line-up a la Big Business.
When the date Dave organised arrived Krist & Melvins showed up but Dave was a no show due to showboating at the Academy Awards or some such celebrity back slap.
Anyway Krist & Melvins did some solid jamming and catching up and Maybe I Am Amused was the result.
I think a few tracks are some left over stuff from the past…Buzzo has always said he has tons of bits & bobs of songs sitting around like riffs, bass lines, drum rhythms etc and when they make albums they do puck and choose from some of that as well as jamming for new material.
I’d give the album 5 stars because it has Melvins on it and I can program the CD player to skip the dumb stuff.
Now, how about Mike & The Melvins?
An album with 3 bass players and almost no guitar???!!! [shocked]
