New Megadeth

Dave has done it again, some of the cleanest hard rocking that can be found as of late.

super collider will be a remembered classic for sure, a must buy/download for sure.[pirate]

I’ll TRY to give it more of a fair shot later, but I’m gonna be honest and say I knew this album was gonna suck as soon as they revealed the cover art. What a stupid stupid low rent picture. Did they hire the $2/hr intern from Cleopatra?

Okay, anyway, I had the misfortune of stumbling across the title track on the radio on my way home from Vegas yesterday. It was total crap. Sounded like pure unadulterated BUTT ROCK. No, seriously, I was listening to it thinking it was Nickelback or one of those stupid generic douche bands.

I hope that track isn’t indicative of the rest of the album, but if it is I will NOT be picking this one up and will instead sit smugly knowing I was right about judging an album by its cover.

And, yes, I DO like Megadeth. Heck, I even like Dave Mustaine. I just don’t think this album is gonna be good if that track is what they chose as their first single to represent it.

The album is horrid…

Agreed…Other than the first track…not so good.

The album is horrid…

Thanks for the warning.
I’m not even saying what I wrote as a hard ass. I actually like a lot of the more commercially accessible Megadeth stuff like “Toute La Monde” and “Trust” and so forth.

I just don’t want them sounding like horrible generic buttrock. There’s a reason I don’t listen to Creed and Nickelback so when Megadeth makes the same doo doo I find it very offensive to my sensibilities.

Sounds like it’s gonna be Risk Part 2.

The consensus in internet metal circles (metalsucks.net chief among them) is this album is the most tepid collection of songs since Risk. That Mustaine got a wild hair up his ass and wanted to try for radio rock acceptance. The kind he failed at big-time in the 90s. Forget that he spent the last several years appeasing the thrash revival crowds. You can’t win them all: the story of Dave’s life.

?? Really?? The Countdown to Extinction album was pretty damn radio friendly in the 90’s

Compared to the next few albums that one is pure unadulterated thrash. I don’t think Megadeth are ever the first go-to band for uniformity (look at the “integrity” Slayer cultivated their entire career; mainly for keeping the same formula). Still, I think Dave was inspired/jealous by Metallica’s successes with finding audiences and began downplaying the furious downpicking for annoying hooks. Don’t look in Marty Friedman’s direction either - he always had an affinity for pop craftsmanship and is now a huge session player in Japan.

I like that Megadeth does things different and flirts with (or completely jumps into bed with) the more commercial side of metal. Sometimes it works. This time, apparently, it did NOT.

For anyone that doesn’t want to pick through the entire Megadeth catalog, they had a 2CD compilation a few years back called “Set the World Afire” which is a really nice collection and has the “hits” on it.

I loved Megadeth through Rust. Anything after that was increasingly toward the buttrock spectrum.

I was like this for a long time but in more recent years have appreciated the more buttrockin’ tunes as well.

What I’ve heard off of Super Collider I couldn’t even tell it was Megadeth. Cringe worthy.

That’s EXACTLY how I felt (or at least from the one song). The only reason I was able to figure out it was Megadeth is because I knew the new album was called “Super Collider” and Dave kept singing “like a super collidahhhh!!!” in the lyrics. His voice even sounded less Davish than usual. I just kept running the math through my head . . . "Well, it sounds kind of like Dave, and he’s singing about a super collider . . . is this really him, though? I’ll check the web when I get home. There’s gotta be some other doucherock band with a super collider song out there too . . . ".

Yeah, it was a bad case of denial, but it really was unbelievably bad.

I hope to never have to hear that album ever again…straight up do-do…

Megadeth is done. has been for quite some time. also… Slayer is done, hard. and depending on who you talk to, Metallica is done.

i say all of this because i feel the need to harken back a few pages and bring up again how fucking rad Anthrax is. haha

Megadeth is cool in my book, but that new album is unforgivable poop. Anthrax is the BOMB! I’ll be seeing both of these bands tomorrow (as well as Testament and Overkill if I can be arsed to leave the nacho bar) as they’ll all be opening for IRON MAIDEN.

Yeah, I just found the article amusing. I liked them for about 5 minutes when Symphony of Destruction came out. I am so not metal.

Anthrax Testament Overkill IRON MAIDEN.

umm… i… am… jealous.

Co-workers and myself all got a pack of lawn tickets. The Jumbotron better be large and 'n charge. Never stepped into San Bernandino somehow let alone hang out there all day, should prove interesting…

You’re not really gonna be in san bernardino. Your gonna be about 10 miles from any sort of town action. The closest you’ll get is the fontana rialto offramp called summit (it south of the venue on the 15) its got a couple of strip malls and a target with bunch of houses. But actual “san bernardino” is about 10 miles east of the concert venue.

Fucking hell, what a line-up. I’ve seen Maiden a few times, Anthrax twice and Testament/Megadeth once (at the same show), but seeing them all together, wow, insane. Hope you have a great time!
