New Jesu

On April 11, Justin Broadrick, a.k.a. Jesu, will release Silver, his follow-up EP to last year’s critically acclaimed debut on Hydra Head.

Best known for his work with Godflesh, Napalm Death and Final, among others, Broadrick brings elements of vintage shoegaze à la My Bloody Valentine into his post-industrial mix, making both 2004’s Heart Ache EP and his full-length some of the most beautifully morose and lonely-sounding post-metal ever.

For Silver, Broadrick has expanded into almost Cure-like territory replete with intricate melodic ornaments, but without compromising his melancholia for synth-pop. Instead, he’s created four cut-and-paste symphonies that would make Four Tet’s Kieren Hebden grin.

In other news, ex-Swan Jarobe stated in a recent newsletter that she would be collaborating with Jesu this year. We’re hoping it will be something as frightening as she did with psych-metallers Neurosis three years ago. Considering Jesu’s debut featured another ex-Swan, drummer Ted Parsons, we’d like to suggest Mr. Broadrick gets in touch with Michael Gira and Norman Westberg for a full-Swan collaboration. We can only hope.

Tracklist for Silver:

  1. Silver
  2. Star
  3. Wolves
  4. Dead Eyes

AMEN to that!

Fucking awesome. I need to check out Jarboe’s MEN release too now that I think about it… I loved Heartache.

sweet, loved the jesu lp, and jarboe’s work with neurosis turned me onto them too,

Definitely my most anticipated album this year. I always thought Jesu were huge on this forum. Can’t believe no one is interested!!!

Find Jarboe to be VERY hit and miss. A bit like Gira I suppose. Sometimes I feel like slapping that guy…or hitting him over the head with his acoustic guitar. Whatever.

fuck yes!!! jesu’s amazing, and all the other good words. i’m really looking forward to this release, already got final’s 3 which is great if you’re into that type of thing. hopefully they do a world tour though! would love to catch them live.

i’m already guessing this as album of the year too…

Hmmm never really got into the Jesu sound although I agree that it was time for Godflesh to come to an end.

I only have the self-titled LP. I’m going to give it another listen cuz I think it might be a grower.

I like the remixes that JK Broadrick did for Isis and Pelican.

Thanx for the heads up, maaaan!

Muchas grazias!!!

Jesu are the shit. Too pure too pure!!

Word on the net is that this ep is killer.
