Grace’s first album in over 15yrs and it looks like a killer with contributions from the Riddim Twins Sly & Robbie and Brian Eno amongst others. The first video for the new song “Corporate Cannibal” from upcoming album is awesome! Grace and her backing riddim is totally BAD-ASS!!! Click the link below the info to check it out.

I was lucky enough to see Grace Jones live with Sly & Robbie here in Edinburgh in 2003 as part of the Triptych Festival and she was something else. Her albums with Sly & Robbie are classics and after checking the new choon “Corporate Cannibal” I’m really looking forward to “Hurricane” hitting the shelves!

‘This Is My Voice, My Weapon Of Choice’. – This Is

Over the past few months, a figure so dominant and iconic has returned to the forefront of our social conscious. Model, actress, performer, entertainer, singer, producer, writer, the enigma that is Ms Grace Jones has firmly been reaffirming herself as the superstar she has always been.

In preparation for her first album in nearly twenty years, the aptly named Hurricane, Ms Jones has been performing various festivals including the cult Secret Garden Party and Lokerse Feesten in Belgium. Her one-off London Show at the Royal Festival Hall on June 19th for Massive Attack’s Meltdown series of concerts saw the excitement for her forthcoming album sky-rocket, as The Times called it a “sensational return to form”, whilst the Telegraph observed that “all around the gawping, whistling, cheering Festival Hall was the sense that this is how a star should be”. The show has been one of the most talked about of the year.

This much-awaited album sees Ms Jones working with various purveyors of pop perfection, having been produced by Ivor Guest alongside Grace herself and includes contributions from Sly and Robbie and Brian Eno. Much noise has been made around Corporate Cannibal, an industrial piece of work, with a ferocious and sinister undertone reflecting modern 21st century life. With a jaw dropping monochrome video by Nick Hooker, Grace morphs, distorts and bleeds into what can only be described as a living example of Dali artwork in constant flux. The video has been racking up countless plays on Youtube et al, whilst fans and musos scramble to get their fix of Ms Jones.

The wait, however, is nearly over. More information on the track listing for Hurricane has just been revealed. First up, ‘This Is’, a perfect pocket of toe tapping classic Grace . ‘Williams’ Blood’, a dramatic, uplifting and positive track shows Grace’s pop versatility. Next up ‘Corporate Cannibal’, a seismic bass heavy epic. The delicate I’m Crying (Mother’s Tears) shows a more intimate, personal side to Grace, complimented by the up-tempo, hip swaying ‘Well Well Well’. Then comes title track ‘Hurricane’, followed by ‘Love You To Life’ which nods back to Grace’s past whilst swaying rapidly forward.

The reggae infused Sunset Sunrise and the spine tingling ‘Devil In My Life’ are all widely affirming glimpses into the psyche of Ms Jones.

With a cultural legacy that has defined the popular culture over the last 35 years, being the muse of Andy Warhol and symbolising the peak of the infamous Studio 54 in New York, to working with controversial American photographer Robert Mapplethorpe and collaborating with visual artist Keith Haring, it is a certain that Grace will be working with the equal creatives of the 21st Century. What to expect, as ever with Ms Jones, will be the unexpected.

put grace jones and sly and robbie anywhere near me.

That’s great news, I’m definitely on board.

Speaking of Eno, anyone listening to the new album by him and David Byrne? I really like it.

That video was pretty damn cool. not a horrible track either.

The new track is fucking AWESOME!!! I was very impressed indeed. I’ve already pre-ordered my copy of the new album.

I’d completely forgot about Eno & Byrne’s new album! What’s it like? “My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts” is one of the illest albums of all-time. That album still sounds fresh today.

That was a great video, the girlfriend and I were just talking about Grace last night. Looking forward to this album.

And didn’t eno just do an album with robert fripp?

A couple years back, it was pretty good too - though the Byrne album is even better IMO.

Never heard Any Grace stuff.

Seen her in View to a Kill and that one vampire film…forget the name.

Intense personality.

Wasn’t she that one crazy barbarian chick in one of the Conan movies?

oops, for some reason I read that as gloria jones, marc bolan’s wife!

never heard of grace jones, but anything with sly, robbie and eno has to be fucking wicked. and that video was wild. cool.

Vamp.

Grace is pretty intense. Her hilarious perfume commericial in Eddie Murphy’s Boomerang is the only thing I remember about that film.

I seem to recall her whipping a large spear around in a Conan film. I know I’ve seen her in the aforementioned Bond film. I only vaguely remember her having an 80’s music career.

She was good. ‘Slave To The Rythmn’ was class.

I once saw a video she did while I was watching tv late one night that can only be described as borderline hard core porn. Without doubt the most controversial music video clip I have ever seen. Apparently it was an ‘alternative’ version of one of her hits that was never officially released. It had all these naked geisha girls in a sauna ‘getting it on’. My eyes nearly popped out of my 13 year old head at seeing a close up shot of a clitoris on late night television.

Never heard Any Grace stuff.

Wow i’m surprised to hear that Jizz! A good place to start is the album “Night Clubbing”…that has a seletion of classics.

Grace’s best stuff was with Sly & Robbie on the riddim section (which was most of her stuff!). And yes she does indeed have an intense personality…I mean fuck check that new song out…she’s now 60yrs of age!

i grew up on grace jones’ “nightclubbing”–dark. i don’t believe senor jizzwad that he was unfamiliar. how does that happen. there were so many famous people involved.
senor jizzwad, what’s up dude?

Wow, with all the mad ups - I just might have to give it a look. 60 years old? Damn.

Amazing video, and a damn cool song. Sounds like a cross between Recoil and Sow.

best 80s ‘artist’, period! through the roof crazy personality. diggus maximus

grace jones was scripted and tight. she could probably beat my ass right now.
