I wasn’t sure at first but it’s definitely growing on me. I can’t wait to see him this fall/winter. Cool little bit on the song Persia (Gary’s daughter) is the female singer.
I saw Gary Numan at Thalia Hall in Chicago this past Wednesday and it was probably one of the best concerts I have been to in a long while. It seemed early NIN-ish if I had to describe it. I’d go again if I could.
Honestly, I first started hearing chatter about Numan again a couple years ago when he was touring with NIN. I laughed, wondering why anyone even cared, and thinking of him as more-or-less an 80’s one-hit-wonder. They sent me some live clips, though, and holy shit! It was hard and aggressive and there was an incredible energy and intensity. I haven’t followed his career and don’t own any of his stuff aside a few of his 80’s hits (“Down in the Park”, “Cars”, etc.) but those clips alone made me really interested and I would totally check him out live if I had the chance.
Yeah, I just saw him when he was in Portland last week(? or the week before?.. can’t remember).
It was a great show! He played a very good balance of new songs and classics (which were peppered throughout the set, rather than all in a block, which can be lame). The band were tight and his performance was great. His vocals were almost surprisingly un-processed, which I found really refreshing; it made the songs sound more raw and immediate. If you get a chance catch him on this tour.
The new album is pretty good. I’ve been listening to in in the car a lot (I have a long highway commute and it’s good music for that). “Dramatic” is indeed a good word to describe it, but I’m enjoying it.
He puts a hell of a lot of work into what he does and the results are generally quite good.

Yo! You didn’t holler at your boy?! I wanted to go to that but eh…money woes
