I was surprised by the retro-sound. One of the songs, “The Sinner in Me” has a synth bass line that reminded me a lot of “The Land of Rape and Honey.” It’s classic DM lyrics and melodies, but very heavy electronics. Lots of analog synths and distorted guitars.
I rather liked it, and though I don’t listen to them anywhere near as much as I used to, I liked the new one much more than at least the last three albums. I haven’t seen them since '93, so I might make it a point to get out for it.
Argh I wanna see them but Im strapped for cash like a mofo. The new album sounds great, I gots the Precious single. The original version is best… lets just leave it at that. Reminds me (and apparently a shitload of others) of Broken Frame & Violator-ish stuff, which is indeed exquisite. Good to see that they know how to play with older school sounding keyboards.
It’s a decent album, though the hype about it being as good as Violator is bullshit. Suffer Well is probably my favorite, along w/Precious. My problem with the ‘retro’ sounding synths is that they’re too dirty and modern sounding, and it makes the whole album sound distorted. The buzz and fuzz gets old after a while. I think Ultra is better and has more memorable songs than PTA, but I’m still going to see them. Regardless, I have my ticket for Nov. 25th.
Heh, “She’s Got A Cause” was just on 1st Wave. That crazy Alain guy!
What is First Wave? If they’re showing “WithSym” era Ministry, I need to know!
Oh, sorry, 1st Wave is the classic alternative station on Sirius satellite radio. They actually play lots of With Sympathy/Wax Trax-era Ministry. A couple of the hard rock stations play N.W.O., Just One Fix, etc. I listen to 1st Wave mostly, because they play music that’s right up my alley - Cure, DM, Siouxsie, Smiths, New Order, etc. Work For Love and Revenge get some decent rotation on that station.
Edit: After I posted this, I see dicecrusher beat me to the punch. Must be the rum…
