Listened to it today! Great stuff, I’m glad they decided to pick it back up, Spiritchaser was good, but to me is their worst album.

Saw DCD last night. One of the greatest live events I’ve ever enjoyed, just stunning. I had hoped before hand that they would not concentrate too much on the new album, Anastasis, as I think it’s not as good as their previous catalogue - they ended up playing all of the album but it didn’t matter, they were so excellent I don’t even think about what other songs they could have played and so on.

The setlist comprised of (I think) all of the new album mixed throughout the setlist (it opened with the first 2 songs from Anastasis in sequence) as well as:

-‘Rakim’
-‘Sanvean’
-a song from the Moors period in Spain called ‘Lama Bada’ and a Greek song from the 1930s that translates into “I’m a Junkie”
-‘Now We Are Free’
-‘The Ubiquitous Dr Lovegrove’ + ‘The Host of Seraphim’ on first encore
-‘Song to the Siren’ on second encore
-‘Rising of the Moon’ on third encore.

All songs were played immaculately and most of the songs from the new album (particularly the weaker ones) were much stronger live.

Lisa Gerrard was, unsurprisingly and to quote Akbar, DEVASTATING. It is something to listen to her on a CD, in a live setting you are levelled (even though we were all sitting down). Such an incredible power in her voice and everytime she went for really high or low notes it was entrancing.

Perry was, to my surprise, excellent. I thought his voice wouldn’t be strong or that he’d be the one to screw up some part (sorry Brendan) but I was totally proven wrong. He was stellar and his voice was brilliant.

My highlight of the night was Perry’s take of ‘Song to the Siren’. I won’t lamely try to describe how beautiful it was but hopefully a recording of it will surface and if and when then multiply that by x1000! It is already one of the best songs in existence with many great covers but I think the version I heard last night was just crowned King.

The gig closed with Gerrard’s ‘Rising of the Moon’. Fitting for the time of year as it was so dark and disturbing and finished the night on a real eerie note (see video) but not in a bad way if you know what I mean.

Here’s a few vids some guy took of last night’ gig:

Incredible night. Has anyone else caught them recently? I think they’re heading over to the Americas next so if anyone has a chance to catch them don’t miss it, I give you my guarantee it will be amazing.
