New David Lynch E.P "Good Day Today / I Know"

Sorry if this is old news for some as it is new for me. I guess he released these tunes as online singles back in December, and the remainng tracks are remixes of these two singles.

This video was directed I believe by the winner of a contests Lynch had held for members of his website:

I really dig the tune, and I think the video is actually pretty well done… creative videography and editing…

Anyway, thought I’d give anyone who is interested in the works of everyone’s favorite “Jimmy Stewart from Mars” a heads up.

Oh yeah I think he is selling this EP and singles on his website or itunes…

always loved waking up in the morning in culver city and hearing david lynch’s weather reports. don’t have anything good to say about this stuff. i love david lynch. he is becoming more repetitive as time goes on. Most artists do that, but Lynch needs to lay off music. IMO.

Yeah, many artists certainly do tend to repeat themselves, although with Lynch I thought his ideas really crystallized in Mulholland Dr.

As for music though, I think that as a director he has some of the most interesting uses of music in his films or TV series like Twin Peaks… the music really carries so much of the mood. And a lot of people have said that Angelo Badalamenti is to credit for the music, but really if you listen to Badalamenti’s music without Lynch it’s very different.

Yeah, maybe these last two tracks he released aren’t amazing in a revolutionary sense, but I think they’re decent… “Good Day” has a cliche dance beat and vocorder sound but the lyrics are great… I really like “I know”. Did you hear the tracks he sang off of “INLAND EMPIRE”? “Ghost of Love” was amazing!

So yeah I disagree Gerda, that he should “lay off of music”, but hey we’re all entitled to our opinions.

Anyway… check out www.davidlynch.com… he’s totally changed his old site into a music and “sensory experience” site. Turn your browser to FULL SCREEN and watch some of this shit with the volume turned up!

I’m a huge fan of Lynch’s musical output. With that said though, I heard the new single a while a go and it didn’t do too much for me. It’s definitely more along the lines of that Danger Mouse/Sparklehorse album he was on which didn’t feel quite as strong as his solo stuff. Or maybe I’m just thrown off by the sheer level of Vocoder on Good Day Today. But I loved the work he did on Inland Empire, “Ghosts of Love” is a fantastic song and that ambient album “The Air is on Fire”, is brilliant.

I hadn’t seen the changes he made to his website until now, it looks great! I’m guessing this means we have a better chance of hearing more Lynch music than seeing new Lynch movies in the near future.

Ever heard Bluebob? It’s a project with him and his engineer, John Neff. It’s good stuff, basically what you’d hear out of some of his movies…bluesy, atmospheric rock drones.

If you haven’t, it’s at least worth a listen. It came out ten years ago.

And I’m actually quite glad he’s re-vamping his site. His paid services site was great the first two years, but he started slacking on it and it showed. When I ordered his DVD sets at first, it was like a mystery - they came in these special black boxes, red wrapping paper, even the smell was foreign to me…

Then I heard the store orders started taking up to 6 weeks to deliver, and they were just regular ol’ boxes…plus no new content except the weather reports…

Ehh…

Yeah, Bluebob was the shit… great album… perfect for driving at night!

Did anyone see “Lady Blue Shanghai”? Neat little short digital film. The story and dialogue are kinda cheesy but visually it’s pretty stunning:
