New Cronenberg film

A Dangerous Method: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=uZ7JKmcLTsI

Keira Knightly getting spanked has sold me but it looks interesting anyway.

Looks good. I think the big question is if Cronenberg will infuse his trademark “body horror” visual style into a film that looks mostly about romantic/professional conflict. On the fence about Keira Knightley having only seen her in the first Pirates movie. Looks like she might be overextending her abilities here.

Cronenberg can do more than body horror.
The throbbing scene cuts in that trailer hurt my eyes.

Interesting…

I missed the last two Cronenberg films and have been waiting till I can afford a decent sized HDTV to see them.

Anyway, from the writer of Dangerous Liasons (great film!)

Hopefully it will be better than Secretary, the last intellectual take on BDSM that I remember portrayed on film.

Cronenberg seems to have stepped away from his “boddy horror” as of late, or at least has chose to explore it in more subtle ways.

Knightley grew on me. First noticed her in one of those Pirates films, which made no impression but she’s quite good in The Edge of Love. She’s also good in Atonement but that film was a bit weak. But I find her more attractive the more I see of her. She is a bit skinny though.

Cronenberg’s two most recent films, A History of Violence and Eastern Promises are my least favourite of his. They’re a lot more tame and formulaic than his better ones. I mean there’s jocks who think A History of Violence is “awesome, dude!” But show them something like Spider and they’d be like “what is this shit?!”

This new one I’m hoping is closer to his older work though. It doesn’t have the obvious appeal of violence so that will winnow some elements. Fassbender is a strong actor and might take over Christian Bale’s mantle as the best “intense” actor. If any haven’t seen Hunger check it out. Criterion have a good DVD version out.

Let’s not forget “Dead Ringers”. Asides from a few disturbing sequences, that movie is largely about psychology and mostly succeeds, which is why I think Cronenberg will do a fine job with the subjects in this upcoming flick.

Reading about “Hunger”. Looks like it’d require great intensity to pull off and now I want to see it, thanks for the recommendation
