Neill Blomkamp, director of District 9, Elysium and Chappie, is making a new Alien film. Turns out Fox didn’t even know they wanted to make the film until he put out the sketches and the plotline he’d laid out, and told Sigourney Weaver about it. She was interested, Fox were interested and i definitely am too. His films so far have been brilliant, can’t wait to see how he brings Ripley and Hicks back from the dead.
I just saw the ad for “Chappie”. What the heck is that crap anyway?
Ugh Die Antwoord?[:|]

Haha, it’s based on a short film he made a few years ago, Chappie’s a military robot who is maybe past his prime and gets found by those Die Antwoord weirdoes, who teach him how to be human. Meanwhile, a bemulleted Hugh Jackman wants his superior killer robots to be the new benchmark, so he decides Chappie must be destroyed. Looks like a cross between Robocop and ET. NO! No disassemble Chappie!
Here’s the original (very) short;

District 9 and Elysium were fucking great, i have a lot of faith in Blomkamp to deliver the goods with Chappie.
Never saw Elysium but def liked District 9…
Not down with the ZEF though…
Also, here’s his concept art that he did for the Alien project. He was able to persuade Sigourney Weaver an Fox with the quality of this stuff. Woodruff and Gillis have already done make-up tests for Hicks based on one of his pieces, looked good.

Oh, i found that Hicks piece;
Yeah, I was kind of scratching my head watching the commercial for CHAPPIE.
What a stupid name for a movie.
Sounds like something they marketed for 5 year olds. Maybe I’ll get the DVD later in a Costco twin-pack, shrinkwrapped with “Mac & Me”.

It will be pretty violent if it’s anything like his last 2 films, definitely a weird enough name though. Sigourney Weaver appears as an evil business exec, she must be playing the “Dick Jones” of this one.
I liked District 9.
I thought it actually did a great job of putting some thought and message into the film while still providing an enjoyable story. The “meanings” were not just beaten over your head, but actually quite contextual.
Anyway, I’m never quite sure what to think of these Die Antwoord people. At first I was like, “Oh, they’re weird and edgy and kind of cool,” but then it was like, “Yeah, okay, I get it . . . just stop.”

Yeah, i think they could be quite annoying. Have you seen Elysium? Great film, Sharlto Copley plays a fantastically over-the-top South African villain, such a hateful bastard!
No, I know nothing about it.
I rarely see any new movies anymore except for the few I catch on the seatbacks on long haul flights.
I want to see “American Sniper” but I’ll probably end up stalling until it’s on an airplane or two years later when I can buy the DVD for 8 bucks.
It’s another sci-fi film by the same dude, i highly recommend it! Matt Damon plays a factory worker on future-earth, which is up shit creek, since all the rich people left for their luxurious space station. Due to certain circumstances he has to invade the space station and combat some seriously evil South African mercenaries. It’s another sci-fi that has a poor vs rich theme, so it’s not totally fresh, but the visuals, the design, cinematography and acting are all fantastic. Oh, and Matt Damon gets a special exoskeleton drilled onto his bones 2/3 of the way through, pretty gruesome, but cool [:)]
District 9 was passable. Elysium was not. Although it was a damn sight better than Jupiter Ascending which I walked out on at around the 100 minute mark.
More to come about that later.

Me too. Every word of it, me too.
Liked both movies and I’m stoked about Chappie - which I’m betting will bum me the fuck out. Blomkamp seems like he’d do the Alien franchise justice.
He will probably do a decent job. But…does the world really need ANOTHER Alien film right now?

Yes, it needs two! This one and the Prometheus sequel. Although i don’t give a fuck about any Alien stuff apart from the first two, i am always hungry to see a new one that’s actually good. It’s just that most of the time i’m let down in some way or another [:(]
But anyway, hopefully it’ll be good, i do have faith in Blomkamp, i think he’s a director who’ll hopefully continue to knock out sci-fi classics, i loved his first 2 and am looking forward to Chappie (a lot), he seems like someone who’s got a lot of interesting ideas and actual vision of his own. Good luck to him, i was outraged to find that he’s a few years younger than me, the bastard, therefore ruining my “no admiration for anyone younger than me” rule, although that was mainly for music rather than films.
