That’s a good AFOS/Ministry comparison, but even more teling is how similar Al & Thwaite’s “It’s Always Christmas Time” sounds JUST like AFOS’ “Space Age Love Song”.
I’m sensing a Flock Of Seagulls vibe from the guitar/synth from Funkamental…not that it’s a bad thing (fan of AFOS, here)
I can’t honestly ever remember AFOS being considered as a style that would be worth emulating. I don’t think I’ve ever owned any AFOS product myself. In March of '82 we were steeped in bands like A Certain Ratio, and Blurt, and American funk bands. English bands with strange haircuts were made fun of on the tour bus, not emulated. That said…Mike Score once took a 30 mile cab ride from Manhattan to some club we were playing at out on Long Island and came backstage. But really, Al’s guitar playing on the Funkamental cut is way too R&B tinged to sound like AFOS, in my humble opinion.
These clips got mentioned on the Wax Trax website.
Which one? Gotta link? Should we alert Capt. URL? [;)]
