Just heard this and it was a swift and brutal kick to my balls…childhood and adult hero gone…
This truly sucks. I know not everyone here liked them but he was very important to me. As a drummer and the band in general.
Having a really hard time dealing with this.
RIP. Not a huge Rush fan, but always enjoyed their music. For some of my friends, they are very important and iconic. Rush has always been within earshot since I started listening to rock music.
so sad. this was out of nowhere for me. i didn’t know he had health issues. i knew he didn’t “thrive” in the lifestyle, but holy shit was he good.
I’m with Revco…this is a huge gut shot for me… I know not many on the forum are fans but they had a huge impact on my life and seeing Peart do his thing live with the band many times over the years was always something special…I’ve been a fan and show attendee since the early 80s…this one stings…

Of course this has to happen when I finally cave and start listening to them… The guy was a beast on drums. A huge loss for music, in general. RIP.
agree , was and still am a hug fan, was since I saw the ALL The Worlds show at the Okeefe centre, dude was a inspiration to all drummers , had to go to Lakeside Park and puff a dube in his honour

This coronavirus shit is creepy, and we’re not getting the right information. To wit:
I live in Flushing, Queens, which has an almost overwhelmingly Asian population. A lot of these guys don’t speak English, live in family-and-work oriented insular circles, and travel to mainland China frequently. You can’t swing a dead cat in this burb without hitting one of them in a full on surgical mask. Some of those masks are found abandoned by the side of the road, with light brown/red stains on the white, inner portion of the mask. What do they know that we don’t?!
The funny thing about the masks is they wont help you for shit. I’ve heard it’s also transmitted through the eyes
Yeah, the masks are pretty useless. I don’t know about the eyes, but in the end it’s the same as with any other airborne pathogen – the virus vs. your immune system. There are so many variables on both sides of that conflict.
They say the mortality rate is 2-3%. Some pathologist being interviewed on CNN said that doesn’t sound like a lot, but to people who study pandemics and epidemics, it’s shockingly high.
Oh well. (Goes back to reading Max Brooks’ “World War Z.” Really.)
I’m hearing a buncha mixed numbers on the mortality rate… It’s already killed a 36, and 44 year old. So it’s shown to be killing people in their prime adding to fears that it could be more contagious than SARS. The Reuters article I read said it wasn’t clear if these men had health problems that made them susceptible
Not that I’m worried (Cause I’m not) but I check it daily just because this is one of the stories that I’m following for whatever reason. I didn’t follow any of the other stupid flus, but this one got me… almost like a virus.

They put out an album with the new singer, which I never listened to, but I saw them live a few years back (geez, the new guy’s been with them for a minute), and he sounded like a poor man’s Weiland. That might have been because the vast majority of the songs from the set were Weiland-era.
I’d have to say he’s worse than bad – he’s uninteresting. At least bad could lead to jokes. He’s the epitome of meh.
