If you want “an education” on the band itself just watch the ‘Joy Division’ documentary by Anton Corbijn. It’s one of the best music doc.s around.
Add ‘Glass’, ‘Colony’, ‘Ceremony’, and ‘Disorder’ to those songs already listed.
If you don’t take to JD well you don’t take to them. But they are one of the most important bands in music history. I won’t try and hazard a stupid guess as to what would it be like without Joy Division but for a band that has been copied and ripped off for the past 30 years they still wipe the floor with all the pretenders.
[reply]Dead Souls is a bad place to start. It’s a good song but it’s not a good intro point. Try any of the following: Love Will Tear Us Apart, Atmosphere, The Atrocity Exhibition, Shadowplay, Heart And Soul, 24 Hours, Passover. Hard to narrow it down, but those would be some good intros.
Love Will Tear Us Apart is alright… Nothing special about it, imo. Transmission is a definite though. The 12’’ remake version of She’s Lost Control is pretty sweet also.
And, i’ll just leave this here… One of the best things i’ve seen in awhile.
At Retrospectacle, Gerda introduced us to the guy who was in the band who was to open for Joy Division in St. Louis if Ian Curtis had not killed himself. Very nice guy.
Back to lurking…
Ha! I’d forgotten about that. That guy was bang on… whoever he was.
Man, and how! HAHAHA!!! I think this video discussion calls for an immature and futile gesture on my part.[/reply]
Yowza! I just got an email noting a response on this vid. I’ve not even been on the video thread for about a month or two but they are all completely emo’d out about my comments.
