Mysterious samples (from any songs)

I’d love to know where these samples come from.

It’s a guy named Kramer from the Virus 100 Tribute to Dead Kennedys. I get hypnotized by it and put the song on repeat for hours. but I’ve never been able to track down the samples. Anybody got any ideas?

I need to find that comp on CD. It really does have some gems on it, and that Kramer track is brilliant.

But, no, sorry. I don’t know the origin of the samples (I have wondered myself, though).

I’d always kind of wondered about the artist, too, but that was always in the pre-internet days when it wasn’t so easy to look into stuff.

I just found this tonight . . . . it’s pretty rad stuff.

I Kramer is from the band Bongwater which I never really listened to, but remember always seeing their discs back in the day. Gonna check them out next.

I already checked em tonite. Not my thang. Not even the popular “power of pussy” i listened to their other “hit” traditonal folksong. Pussy was better but that aint saying much.
The AT 100 cd is really easy to find. The other shiner is nomeansno rendition of forward to death. Absolutely brilliant

Yeah, those are the two standouts for me too.

I only skipped around a little bit on that Kramer album, but I kind of dug it. It’s weird and different.

I did look up some Bongwater which is not too much my thing either. I only tested a few tracks and saw some late night live performance. The Grateful Dead dude, Bob Weir, was jamming with them, but I don’t know if that was a one-off or if he was always in the band. I might try skipping through some more later if I don’t lose interest by then.

I didn’t see a kramer album listed on Youtube. I’d be interested in checking in out. I just checked out those bong water songs.

The link I posted was for a KRAMER album, not Bongwater. I thought it was kind of cool. Pretty out there and varied stuff. Definitely more interesting than any of the Bongwater hippie stuff.

That Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy version of California Uber Alles is my favorite track from that disc. it’s pretty much the only Michael Franti track I like, but is easily one of my favorite covers of all time.

No idea on the samples you asked about though.

I like that one too. I like how busy it sounds. There’re so many layers too it.

Another good track is the Moon Over Marin cover. I love how stale the vocals are and it gives off and awesome “emotional disconnect” vibe. I think it’s at least as good as the original.

“Dead bodies everywhere”
“It was a gruesome site”
Does anyone know the source of these two Union Carbide samples?

Presumably from a news report about the Union Carbide disaster in the '80s.

Les Thugs are very solid ‘power pop’; I actually bought the records ‘Nineteen Something’ and ‘I.A.B.F.’ after hearing that cover initially.

I have a “soupçon” of Frenchy heritage that kinda grooves on them, I s’pose. Also good for fans of Wire and Buzzcocks who nonetheless want to hear some kind of progression from those classic sounds.

And don’t forget [url http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heysel_Stadium_disaster]29th. Of May. Nineteen. Eighty-Five. A day…like every day.

But according to that article, the official number of the dead was thirty-NINE! Al should perhaps do a more historically accurate RemiXXX to correct that, huh?

I didn’t know that was about Heysel until a couple of weeks ago, i remember that day really clearly. A nice evening, i was at the library in my home town and got home to see the news on tv. Horrifying. It was when i was too young to realise that football was a load of shite played by overpaid buffoons and wasn’t worth my time. English teams were banned from playing in Europe after that for a while.

iirc, weren’t the teams involved punished by playing their next match in an empty stadium (even though the match was televised)?

I think all UK teams were banned from Europe for a couple of years, but Liverpool may have been banned for 5 or 6 years, something like that. Well deserved, their fanbase was full of absolute idiots.

*Just checked Wikipedia, English teams banned from 1985 to 90/91 season, with Liverpool getting an extra year’s ban on top of that. Very serious.

Yep. Les Thugs.
They really had a great sound.

That Virus 100 came out in the perfect time of my life. At that time I was completely obsessed with anything Jello or DK related and would also literally buy ANY Alternative Tentacles release, without even knowing anything of the bands.

I was team Bat all the way. So a lot of those bands I already knew and loved and I think there may have been a few that made me go, “Oh, damn, I’m still missing that one.”
