My Own Retarded Music

I got inspired by Rev’s myspace, and decided to make a few of my own to showcase the music that I make to entertain mainly myself and my friends. These bands are purely tongue in cheek, and are an homage to weird cinema, horror films, and rubber-suited monster shows. Its not anything I take seriously, there are no lyrics, but plenty of sound-bites and vinyl crackle to give it that authentic feel.

Appologies go out in advance to James Brown (RIP) for the faux pas of using the Amen Break as late as 2009, and to the Evolution Control Committee for finding the god-send of all religious records 'Don’t Miss The Great Snatch" by Elder Marshall Taylor.

The first project Monster Jungle X-ray is named in honor of President Harry S. Truman’s pet boa constrictor (a true story). The archaic Reel-to-Reel machine I used in the past has been put out to pasture in favor of cheap programs (i.e. free) with lots of virtual knobs and sliders.

My second project Morturizer is slightly more serious, but not by much inspired mainly by z-grade zombie flicks.

I can hear everything from Twitch to The Prodigy to Depeche Mode to Front Line Assembly… or should I say Skinny Puppy on Monsterjunglexray.

The apocalypse never sounded so danceable and well not such a big deal with Morturizer.

Would be cool if we could have the mp3s for some of these songs, namely the main one from monsterjunglexray. Same goes to the other lads who make music here and are not planning on selling it (or don’t mind giving it out free). Or if there could be a section on prongs for the musicians here to provide their music.

Just a thought.

You shouldn’t sell yourself short. I was expecting an unlistenable mess from your description, but it’s not like that at all. I totally dig it.

fun stuff. love the preacher stuff. i didn’t listen to it all - but i liked what i heard.

Thanks guys for the kind words. That is a good idea, I wonder if we couldn’t have some sort of user project section to the forum where we could put up a few files to download. A lot of us here are musicians, and while I joke about the music I make I’ve been doing it for 20 years so I guess I’m a lifer.

What do you think Afra? Is this something that is feasible to work out with space, or maybe a prongs user comp?

This stuff is pretty cool. You really sold yourself short with the description, which read more like you apologizing for how shit it was ahead of time and almost dissuaded me from check it out.

Yeah, you should never do that.
I think some of my own stuff sucks frankly, but I’d never tell anybody that if I wanted them to listen (I also try not to post that stuff to myspace, but you get what I mean).

I think he sampled it.

I’ve been posting far too much on prongs today…

Yeah, you should never do that.

Yeah I guess I can see what you guys mean, I shouldn’t be so self-effacing when it comes to this stuff. I think it mainly comes from my own insecurities, I’ve had some big setbacks in my life recently that have nothing to do with music so it spills over. Mainly what I am trying to do with these projects is to put a little humor into an otherwise mostly doom and gloom style of music (which I still love).

I have friends who just don’t get it, and for them music has to be hardcore and serious all the time (aggro grrr). But I am glad you guys have enjoyed it.

And yes carmangary, that track was probably unconsciously influenced by Crash and Burn, after 20 some odd years of listening to Twitch it is bound to have had some effect on me [:)]
