Today it arrived!
In Case You Didn’t Feel Like Showing Up (Live) on LaserDisc.
Tomorrow’s my birthday so I’m pretty happy about that. Just need to find a way to get a digital version.

DVD or BD or GTFO.
What somebody needs to do now is convert that laserdisc to a DVD. I’ve seen it done really well with some other artists whose work didn’t make the jump to digital (Kate Bush and Tom Waits), and the results were pretty great - near DVD quality. But I think to do a really good transfer you need some really good equipment.

You can buy laser disc rips off of ebay.
You can buy laserdisc rips off eBay, but the quality may vary greatly. I really respect the people who put massive amounts of effort and equipment into pulling the best copy possible off of an outdated and often failing (disc rot) medium. Sometimes they go as far as doing multiple passes using very expensive high-end players and capture cards, just to get that tiny little bit more quality squeezed out. The results are impressive. And the best people out there release it on the internet for free, so there may not be a need to pay a bootlegger for a copy.
However, in absence of anything better being available, you either have to settle for what you can, or do it youself. I’ve been tempted to buy a LD player just for that more than a few times…

I did a rip years ago of my laserdisc. I had no fancy recording shit, though, it was a straight rip from laser disc to a dvd recorder. I ended up chaptering it up by song and someone downloaded it and started hawking it on Ebay. They made a pretty nice dvd jacket for it, a pronger at the time confirmed it was my rip. I was flattered, but I wasn’t about to start selling it. Not sure if it’s still floating around out there on the webs.
grmpysmrf, was that ICYDFLSU that you ripped from laserdisc? If so, cool…although it sucks that some parasite turned it into a money-making opportunity using your work and someone else’s IP. I’ve had it happen to me as well…it just goes with the territory.
You can get a pretty good rip just using standard equipment, I guess - better than VHS, for sure. But I’ve seen some of the rips that guys have done using fancy equipment, and it’s pretty amazing what they manage to get out of them. Somewhere between regular laserdisc playback and DVD quality.

Yup, that would be the one. I should play that vid again. I haven’t watched it in years now. I put my Sphinctour DVD in a double DVD case so I could store the rip normally.
Thanks for the inspiration.
I have ICYDFLSU as an ISO if you want it…
That’d be cool. Thanks.
I fired up my LD player and well it isn’t happy. Not surprising as it’s been sitting there for at least 4 years doing nothing.
I managed to get it to open the LD drawer and it eventually played a CD, but it’s straight out rejecting LD’s at this point.
Given that, I’m going to get it looked at, although I know what I’m like so if I can get it fixed, I’ll start chasing down all the other LD only stuff I’d love to get (The Cure, Depeche Mode).
‘in orange’? ive got a rip of this, but i don’t think its LD.
Here’s the Laser Disc rip.
