ok… I’m gona be some kind of a whore here but… anyway…
been busy with my band (and the stupid thing called work) lately… but finaly we got some time over to make some kind of video.
And, we even got some footage of a livegig that we did about a month ago. (recorded music, live pictures).
Anyway, I know there are some “hardcore” critics here
So, what I want from you is your honest opinion about the “video” we did to the song Where are you.
Man, imho, the video sucks. The song I really like. A lot actually. You’ve got that going for you. The video is just mostly a mouth with inverted colors for half the video then an entire face with inverted colors singing up close. That’s just my opinion though, and I’m sure it was made on a shoestring budget. Again, though, the music was cool.
Get a bunch of skaters eating shit and breaking their arms and legs and shit. Put a big montage of pain to that song, and you’ve got a youtube hit.
Let me just say first off that I am not a fan of the sort of ‘Nu-Industrial Metal’ sound, sorta like what Static X are peddling. Just isn’t my thing, for a number of reasons I’ll keep to myself.
Your music sounds like this. So I’m going to set aside my prejudice and be as objective as possible.
For what it is (that being, something I am not into)…
I think it’s really good.
The production is great, guitars sound crisp, levels are good, vocals are good as well. Well done. Sounds professional and you should try put this shit out there a little more, very nice.
As for the video, I thought some of the ideas were good, but two major criticisms:
Too much shot of the mouth and face. It got repetitive after a while and it didn’t match the ‘brutality’ of the music. Try interspersing more of those stock footage clips, they worked well.
RE: Mouth and face footage: you didn’t look angry enough! It just looked like you were talking, and it was sort of incongruous to the music. I dunno, try make it look like yer really pissed or whatever.
me too. video is a bit lame but the song kicks ass! Alright the video is really lame but it’s about the music not the pictures!

yeah video kinda sucks, too much “acid” filters. reminded me of how a good portion of “in case” is unwatchable, hehehe.
the song is ok, i just don’t dig that type of stuff, loved the bass tone (in the portion where i could hear it separately), very nice distortion!
the overall sound was kinda shite, drums almost non-existant and thin, but the cymbals, too much of 'em, very trebly and “chewed up”, maybe also a result of a myspace compression.
all in all i think a straight “mimed” perfomance video would’ve been much better than some color-filtered closeups!
it was shot in my friends basement, so the budget is pretty much none existent hehe.
We had some ideas about taking some shots in a empty industrial storage space and/or in the woods a night with a flashlight.
the song itself is about questioning religion and why there is so much bad things happening in the name of religion these days when almost all religions is about… basicly peace, love and understanding.

I wanted to have some footage of some flagburnings. Like from the fanatics that burned some danish flags bacuase of some muhamed drawings.
But it’s all been done before so it would maybe have been to obvious.
I was thinking of the “in case you didn’t feel like showing up live” footage when I watched the finished result. And how pissed I was about the “acid filters” that pretty much destroyed parts of that live-footage. But then again, my face/mouth without filters wouldn’t be that interesting either hehe.
So, to sum it up.

I thought it worked fine… kinda showed the duality of the prevalent attitudes in todays culture SUPER aggressive (the music) and very apathetic. In the middle of all of that aggression you’re a stone face like you don’t care! very cool! Or perhaps that is like religion itself, very neautral looking but if you look at the result and the shit they’re really saying it’s very close to the temper tantrum that is the song! In all Honesty I don’t think you were neautral enough! Hell dress up like a newscaster that would fit even more perfect. How often do newscasters tell us fucked up shit with an expressionless face and then smile as they’re leading us to a commercial about toothpaste… “No emotion 5,600 dead today from atheletes foot and now a message from our sponsors” Smile
I was also thinking of puting in some liveclips, like from the other to clips.
But we didn’t do that song live, so that was a no go.
would that have worked or would it have been cheesy?
You don’t need video clips from that specific song! just so long as the live clips that you use don’t have any close ups on the vocals, you can use any old live footage.
