Movie

I know this topic was up some time ago. on the “old” board… or was it on “the other” forum?!?
don’t remember.

anyway.
Would a movie about ministry work?
Like The Doors … don’t remember what I thought about that movie… think it was good… must se it again.
Would it? Is there enough stories in/around/about Ministry to make a movie about them?
Whe have the drugs, anti-bush, clinical death, sideprojects, almost a comebac (psalm69 -> FilthPig), bandmembers comes and goes, more anti-bush, quitting the drugs, marriage… I’m sure there is more.
And this is just stuff I’m picking out of my head.
I’m sure there is plenty of more stuff… maybe you guys who “hangs” with ministry some know more interesting stuff that could make it into a movie…
Afra… yeah, I’m looking your way hehe

I know I would like to se a movie about Al and MInistry… to see it on a screen when the young Alain starts with music, why he starts with the drugs, why starting with the heavier music… and so on.

I seem to remember one from this board directing movies… had a short movie about a dentist with the Pinhead-actor… or was that also from “the other” board? c’mon make this movie… I want to se it.

and… yepp… I could se jonny depp as Al hehe…
not because that guybrush threepwood caracter he did in the pirates of the…

yupp.

When I talked to Viva Nova last year, she informed me a friend of hers in Chicago was doing a doc on Ministry. Unsure of what was going on with that, she did want to get me his number… I might contact her again to get it, as I am curious again.

Al also supposedly made a documentary on Ministry, entitled FIX, that was to be premiered at Sundance last year or the year before. Never happened.

I myself would love to do it, or I could see someone on here doing one. I have no skills at cinematography, but I definitely have the information. It would be a trip…

I think the main thing is, what would be the focus? Docs on bands mostly center around drug use, and I think that’s too hammy at this point. I think the main thing I always liked about Ministry was their ability to change without caring about the consequences. Perhaps that would make good subject matter?

Personally, I don’t think a movie on Ministry (at least any sort of major motion picture) has even the slightest hope of seeing the light of day.

You can just take a look at the record sales of the past 3 or 4 Ministry albums to get an idea as to why…but for that matter, just take a look at their overall record sales.

It was sort of an obvious that there was still a lot of public interest (aka commercial interest) in The Doors, and if one were to hold this in comparison to Ministry, well, the amounts of commercial interest compartively held between the two bands isn’t even worth thinking about.

This same thing would hold (IMO) if you took a look at Sid and Nancy (which ever so slightly was a Sex Pistols film), and once again, I just really don’t think that the commercial interest in Ministry ranks as high.

A girl asked me recently who my favorite band was. I replied that it was a tie between Ministry and Skinny Puppy…her reply was that she had never heard of either one of them. Can’t tell you the last person I spoke to that had never heard of The Doors or The Sex Pistols…which I think goes far to explain my point.

no kidding.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I do believe that Houses… has so far shifted less than fifty thousand units - which is slightly more than, say, the last Wumpscut album but slightly less than, say, the Candlebox Greatest Hits collection.

If anyone out there seriously believes that, because a film was made about The Doors, then a film about , ahem, Ministry is therefore not only a reality, but is also commercially viable - seek professional help.

I mean, you may as well start hanging out for a film on GG Allin.

Hey, hang on…

A girl asked me recently who my favorite band was. I replied that it was a tie between Ministry and Skinny Puppy…her reply was that she had never heard of either one of them.

Funny that. A girl once asked me the same question and I told her it was a tie between Wolf Eyes, Chrome and Throbbing Gristle. She then told me she had never heard of any of them.

So we had sex.

I can. It was last night. But I think she was lying to impress me.

Which was…?

Well, obviously, it wouldnt be a mainstream or commercial movie. I wouldnt say that a film about Ministry or somehow tied to Ministry is impossible in the indie film scene. I would make one, thats for sure…

Well, if Foetus is getting his own documentary soon (as trailered on the DVD that comes with LOVE) then it’s certainly within the realm of possibility that Ministry could have one made about them.

And the DO have connections in the industry

cough Speilberg cough.

And the DO have connections in the industry

Have, or had? The only reason they were in A.I. was because Kubrick wanted them in the film. Who knows if Al has even spoken to Speilberg in the 5 years since their one scene in the flesh fair was shot?

Of course the idea of a mainstream, commercial movie is silly. VH1 wouldn’t even do a Behind the Music on Sepulture, which is a far more compelling story of guys growing up in poverty, gaining world wide recognition, Max marrying a troll twice his age, and then quitting the band and not even remaining in contact with his own brother in the aftermath.

The only element of interest to Ministry’s existence, to a mainstream audience at least, would be the rampant drug use. Otherwise, nobody would care about them going from sounding like the Pet Shop Boys to death metal in 10 years.

I think if you can do a documentary on G.G. Allin (Hated) and one on the Brian Jonestown Massacre (Dig!), there should be a doc on Ministry.

I was going to mention Dig! as well, I havnt seen it, but yeh, if those huys get a doco why cant Ministry. I think I’ve seen hated… dont think I would have wanted to go to a GG show… or if I did try and stay put of his line of site.
Anyway… Ministry doco, why not? I dont think a hollywood movie would work, I mean it may, but a. which hollywood company would want to put money behind it, b. aside from people who knew of ministry who would go to see it?
I think a doc would be a better idea. I’m sure Al+co have heaps of unused video footage in storage somewhere. I’m sure with the right promotion/if it was made the right way could be pretty good.
