There is no thread dedicated to the awesomeness of Motörhead and that is quite frankly bullshit.
So, please, let’s talk about how awesome Lemmy is and how Motörhead rules. Or, if you disagree, we could talk about how much of a pussy you are for not liking Motörhead. Either way.
Just saw them Saturday night with Saxon. Both bands were amazing.
I’ll post more about the show later, as well as share my best Lemmy story.
Anyway, the bottom line is . . . . Lemmy RULES! Motörhead RULES! And only pussy ass queers would ever think otherwise.
Personal Favorite Album: Motörhead
Personal Favorite Songs: “Killed By Death”, “The Watcher”, “I Don’t Believe A Word”.
I couldn’t even speak today, my voice was so shot from yelling all night Saturday. Saxon opened. I knew little about them before, but they were amazing! Old dudes that sounded completely excellent. The singer is incredible. He sounds like a blend of Bruce Dickinson and Ian Gillan. I’m a fan now and would gladly even see a show with them as the headliner or only act.
The pit was in full effect for both Saxon and Motorhead and it was great. No knuckleheads doing chest bumps or going backwards or doing karate ninja kicks or anything. Full-on solidarity and everyone just having a blast the way it should be.
Motorhead was amazing. 14 song set, but just balls-out the whole way. Lemmy sounded as good as ever. The whole band was super tight. It was nuts up front. Everyone crammed in a sweaty mass. I was fully drenched in sweat and beer at the end of the night. Highlights were “Ace of Spades” and “Overkill” (Lemmy’s son Paul joined on guitar for that one). I do think it’s tragic that they omitted “Killed By Death”, but it was still a stellar performance.
My feet are bruised to hell from getting stomped in the pit, and every muscle in my body aches.
The security and cops at the Shrine are awesome too. We were drinking on the top level of the parking lot and two policemen came. They said, “We’re supposed to tell you you’re not allowed to drink in the parking lot and make you dump out the contents. . . . but we’re instead just going to tell you guys to dump it into your bellies and wrap things up.” The security team inside the gig was pretty lax too. People smoking dope on the smoking patio were just told to “put it away”, and that was that.
I rolled in with my No. CA homies, but also saw a fair number of brothers and sisters at the gig that I knew from previous gigs and adventures. There were also a surprising number of moderately or very attractive girls at the show too (kind of unexpected for a Motorhead show).
Such a great show all around. My return home, however, after dropping my friends off . . . . well, that’s another story, altogether. A bit tragic, haha!
Sounds like a great time…I have always loved Motorhead(and Hawkwind as well)…have seen them several times…Lemmy is God and can’t be killed(unless you gave him celery and carrots)…I love his recent admission of having to switch from whiskey to vodka for health reasons…seems reasonable to me…long live Motorhead…
side note:Another Perfect Day is majorly underrated…as is Orgasmatron…and of course all the stuff with the original line-up are untouchable classics…
They were in SF last night, but I didn’t go. One can hope that this isn’t Lemmy’s last hurrah, but it would be fitting if it is. I luckily saw Motörhead in '08 with Sabbath and Judas Priest.
I always figured Lemmy should have a kind of nationally syndicated “Ask Lemmy” column in newspapers. Another of my brainstorms that occurred during a greasy spoon meal at the Golden Nugget, and evaporated shortly thereafter.
Actually I later revisited that idea but modified it, thinking there should be a full volume published of Children’s Letters to Lemmy, along with responses. Since we have acknowledged him as the one true God, I think it’s only appropriate to update the ol’ Children’s Letters to God concept.
I stumbled upon something like that on YouTube once, Tomazs. I’ll see if I can find it.
I figured somebody probably beat me to that, given the length and high visibility of Motorhead’s career. But yeah I would be eager to see it…
I should add that, even with my omnivorous musical diet, “No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith” is a constant companion on the mind-numbing road trips that I have to make. Jamming “We Are The Road Crew” didn’t save me from a nasty tire blowout, but it at least made the situation a tiny bit more bearable.
“Don’t Let Daddy Kiss Me” kinda tears your guts out. “1916” is awesome too.
Yeah, “Don’t Let Daddy Kiss Me” is a great song. Motorhead were never a band i expected to put out anything other than good-time rockers, so something so heartfelt was quite an emotional surprise.
I think I should get one of those earring nose chains and start wearing it…it wouldn’t look awkward at all on a 44 year old middle age man…
I see tons of old burnouts at the old rock shows like that. They always have super overdone hair and wear silly blazers, while trying to look rock and roll, most of them look way too much like Rod Stewart.
