I thought it was about time for another Mortiis the Black Metal Fairy thread…
I’m pretty sure he swiped that cover from this:
He has a new album out you know.
And it’s free to download in lossless quality [cool]
Will you ever see Kayne doing that ? [:P]
Motiis’ music is woeful apart from the early albums which are sort of medieval ambient and are worth checking out.
If I ever saw him turn up to a gig wearing that outfit I’d push him to the ground and stomp on him with my doc martin stomper boots.
Then I’d help him to his feet and buy him a Shirley Temple.
BTW I picked up that new Deerhunter cd and it is choice!!
[:)]
Good call!
Now go for the Sore Eros.
This is my favorite Mortiis pic. Look at his belt. There’s a gloppy ring of glue in the middle where there should be some funky pentagram or another skull or something. It’s like a failed prop from Kroft Superstars or something . . .
And this one with the crappy construction paper Batman wings . . . it looks like a Party City advertisement for a Halloween costume.
I really wanted to like Mortiis’s music because someone that ridiculous SHOULD be awesome, and I’d love to wear a Mortiis - Stargate t-shirt and actually be able to defend it with conviction (I really don’t like people that wear t-shirts for “ironic” purpose).
But . . . I’ve tried. I really have. It’s like a poor man’s Skinny Puppy. I can tolerate this song, but that’s about it . . .

Witchy-Poo!
I always thought he must have watched LEGEND too many times, or looked at too many Brian Froud and Alan Lee faerie books. What I’ve heard of Mortiis is all right, not my cup of tea but not awful.
I used to really dig Mortiis when I was a teen but that’s one artist I’ve pretty much left in the past. I never really listened to his more ambient stuff but I did dig The Smell Of Rain when it came out. That album is highly repetitive though. Then The Grudge came out and while it had it’s moments it just could’ve been a better followup. I may check out the new stuff but I don’t expect anything good
These are two pieces I made a few years back.
The very early stuff is pretty cool spooky, black ambient. The imagery was more vague and unsettling. Hazy images of castles and whatnot.
By Stargate the goblin schtick had gotten way silly, as you can see from the album cover above.
Then he went industrial/rock and, apart from a few gems, it’s pretty mediocre.
He doesn’t wear the goblin mask anymore.
He doesn’t wear the goblin mask anymore.
That’s the worst decision he ever made. What a jerk!
