I see KMFDM and related discussed here enough so I thought I’d get a topic started for this release
Listened to this on headphones a few times now and feel familiar with it enough to give this album an assessment.
It’s damn good. So was 120 Tage. This release has the distinction of being 95% original compositions whereas its predecessor was by and large reinterpretations of old Mona Mur songs done in one consistent style. That dark cabaret style isn’t really found here but the same moods are revisited on a few of the slower songs to great effect. On DWMWYW (that’s going to be fun to abbreviate for future reference!) Esch and Mur mostly eschew the waltzy rhythms that defined their last album and go for the dancefloor. Esch clearly had a stronger hand in this recording and for any fan of his, this album will be a gift from above as all of his stylistic trademarks are showcased. The heavily sustained solos so reminiscent of his work on UAIOE and Virus, lush and bassy beats and bombastic key changes that give some songs (and honestly a lot of his songwriting) an emotional undertow that you don’t get in KMFDM Mach 2. For anyone who’s leveled criticism at Esch and Slick Idiot for their recordings sounding on the cheap, I’m inclined to agree. This album however finds the duo stepping up the recording proceedings quite noticeably. There’s a density to be found on most of these songs not heard in a while and the production definitely stands up to what Sascha’s doing now.
Standout songs:
Silly Romance
Flesh & Blood (imo the most KMFDM like of the bunch, has a real Naive/Money feel with an instantly memorable chorus)
My Life
Do With Me What You Want
First thing I could say is that these two have a good chemistry working together. Esch really shines on this one also. Mona’s a pretty good vocalist as well. The new album is pretty different from 120 Tage. Maybe because 120 Tage was mostly remakes with a few new ones (great album as well). This one is a bit more on the diverse side. Nothing really repeated, and it keeps you guessing. And since 120 Tage, it’s great to finally hear Esch play solos again. Pretty badass guitarist.
Some of you may remember this moment, while the babies wish they were older. Regardless, heres for your viewing pleasure. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPt64cB4QBE
This gives you an idea how long En Esch and Mona Mur actually have known each other.

lol damn. raymond is the only REALLY recognizable person. he almost looks the same :P.
yeah i recognized sascha, but he’s changed compared to watts.
if you look at the youtube comments, someone pinpoints en esch. he looks COMPLETELY different. just look for the tallest guy in a trench coat and a mop of brownish hair.
Her band from the 80s were from neubauten. Einheit and Hacke, maybe Chung. Raymond still looks very much like himself to this day, or a few years ago anyway. Same with esch, minus the hair. When I originally saw older pics of esch, my jaw dropped. All that hair, then BAM! BALD!
Are the rest of the guys Einsturzende Neubauten? I recognize F.M. Einheit, he’s the one with the bright orange hair and clothes.
Mona Mur was a member of Einsturzende Neubauten, so its possible I won’t rule that. However, I’m rather doubtful because the videos that follow are as follows: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkVE44Ay4mg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FP2eknaXIgI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3swlrSiXKEE
Take emphasis on the fact that F.M. Einheit is playing traditional drums here, not rocks, bricks, dirt etc. Thus, its safe to assume this is a Mona Mur solo set and not Einsturzende Neubauten.[/reply]
You’re forever welcome,

Well, he didn’t go bald of natural causes. I think he lost his hair in a fire in the early '90s, and decided to keep the look ever since.
That’s what I originally thought, but people have told me it isn’t. With the timeframe and everything, it makes sense. But when I’ve asked before, they’ve told me “no”. It happened during the ministry tour, didn’t it? Because in the remastered naive booklet, he has hair in the pics, but in the bio, it mentions the fire and about him being in the hospital for weeks. I dunno…
It’s apparently false. From the Slick Idiot forum’s Q&A with En Esch in 2009:
[/quote]
Q: What really happened to your hair? Does it have to do with a certain studio fire?
A: I LOOKED INTO THE MIRROR ONE MORNING AND DECIDED I’D LOOK BETTER WITH A SHAVED HEAD. I WAS RIGHT. BTW IT WAS IN APRIL 1991.
BUT IT’S TRUE I ESCAPED FROM A VERY DEADLY FIRE IN CHICAGO AND HARDLY SURVIVED.
LOOK OUT FOR MY AUTO-BIOGRAPHY IN A COUPLE OF YEARS FOR MORE DETAILS ON THAT…
