Miss USA contestants give their thoughts on evolution

Watch this and weep:

Yes that’s right. Miss USA ‘2011’.

You just saw it with your own eyes. That was not a joke folks.

Making fun of American Southerners / Rednecks is like shooting fish in a barrel.

It just happens to be a lot more fun than shooting fish in a barrel.

Saw that the other day. Well, at least they’re pretty!

I don’t know about your cities but mine and all of the other ones I have been to, the churches outnumber the schools by a ridiculous margin. That should be reason enough to keep religion out of school.

You want to “learn” about creationism then pick a church and go there!

With all the love for fascism by some on this board surprised someone other than me posted a C&L link

This video seems to be garnering a lot of attention, especially of the “we’re doomed” variety. But I have one simple reasoning: when have we ever looked to beauty pageants for intelligence, or as an example of how smart younger people are? It’s always going to be the case that at least half of the girls are going to say something like “I think it should be an option but personally I’m a Christian.” They are moulded to be inoffensive and to conform to traditional beliefs, because that is where their support base is. They’re not going to hit universities on their tours now are they?

I thought many of these responses, for the category that we are looking at, were fairly acceptable. Only one, Miss Alabama, was against it (probably because she’s never been with an evolved man). The thing is once kids are exposed to it and presumably (hopefully) taught it correctly it is up to them to understand that evolution is fact and creationism is nonsense. Otherwise kids are just being told what to believe in. America having a significant population that is credulous it’s always going to come down to their belief system. But at least most of these girls did think kids should be “knowledged” about it.

p.s. The two best answers came from the two best looking girls: Miss Connecticut and Miss Pennsylvania

p.p.s. Miss Georgia: “We’re smarter than ever these days” is my proud new sig. Thanks Miss Georgia for making it happen, ya wee bonny lass.

as an American myself, I somehow feel exempt from this as I’m a yankee and not a rebel, but I have hillbilly ancestors…so…

its not hard to see how this is still going on, as long as christianity has a foothold on American attitudes, its always going to be the case.

When people from supposedly ‘enlightened’ countries talk like this, it creeps me out. Makes me think of The Stepford Children. People actually believe that a big hand came down from the sky and “hey presto” here comes man?? Just because some guy wrote that thousands of years ago when people still thought the earth was flat? Yikes.

I stopped believing in that shit around age 9 - about the same time I stopped wanting to grow up to be Batman. Even my religious relatives think creationism is far fetched and should not be taught in schools.

Shit, all that nonsense is a requirement to get elected here now. Which is weird because all of the founding fathers were deists but yet new Christians want to make them all fundamentalists.
the original founders couldn’t get elected today to save their live!
