You know, in some ways I think this country has advanced a lot since I’ve lived here (10 years), such as when Obama became President but then you see reports like this and the one where Texas is dramatically changing their syllabus:

and then I think “what happened”, especially when we compare how the US is compared to Europe which is leaps forwards in many things.

The ironic thing with these conservative types removing Jefferson is that they are some of the most un-American Americans around. They are brazenly ignorant of the heritage of their own country. Do modern day evangelicals realise how supportive their predecessors (18th century evangelicals) were of the separation of church and state? No, because they are retards who shite on about tradition but yet are conveniently blind to much of their own history. America is the ultimate paradox and Texas seems to be hub of this paradox. I’ve heard only good things about Austin (am I right in thinking Mr. Barker resides there?) but then you have these loonies who can make these changes that affect not only the kids of Texas but other states too.

The sad thing is these people are trying to marginalize Jefferson and he’s the guy that wrote the Declaration of Independence (along with Franklin) and now because he was for separation of Church and state they want to write him out!
one of the crappiest things is that one of the school board members essentially said “suck it!” - his quote was something along the lines of “liberals have had control of the school board for way to long and they have tinged the curriculum with liberal bias and now it’s our turn to swing the pendulum back the other way”
