I’d personally never seen Same Old Madness but according to Bisquit, it has Al & co. dressed up and clowning around at a County Fair or something really cheese like that.

The SOM video is a hoot. It’s not at a county fair but at a travelling carnival on the far northside of Chicago. I think it was in the Rogers Park neighborhood. There is a scene with the band syncing along onstage at Metro with people up on stage bopping around such as they did back in the early 80’s. And you’re right, it’s pretty cheesey.

Thanks! I used the third one down (iMZ…) so that one’s gone.

wempathy: Hey, do you happen to know exactly what year the SOM video was created? I’ve been curious about that one.

And regarding the video, I have a copy that’s guaranteed to be the best out there - sourced directly to digital from a 1/2 inch master tape. I will share my DivX-encoded version of it if somebody can give me a place to host it. I’m on dial-up right now, so my options are limited.

skot, i can give you the place to host it.

if you’re talking about Same Old Madness video, that is.

Spring/Summer of '82 I’ll guess. It was '82 for sure, pre all the Arista WS sessions which started around October of '82 and lasted until the Spring of '83.

so that means al WAS into sugary synthpop after all and all that stuff “they made me do it” is total crap?

Should be July 1982. That’s the date on one of the copies I have (I think the one you hooked me up with). This coincides with the planned single release as well.

Perhaps not TOTAL crap, but I don’t think he can get away with saying he had nothing to do with it. I don’t see what’s so embarassing about it, anyway; it was 1983, fer chrissakes!
Update: Holy Smoke Machine, Batman! I freaking LURVE the Revenge vid! Thank you so much! Did I put enough exclamation points there!!! Because I don’t think I did!!! Yay!!! Eagerly awaiting the Same Old Madness clip…

Cheers Humtermc! 1st one worked for me. That vidoe is a trip. Wasn’t expecting so many close ups of Al. Can see a little of the intensity and theatrics that would be a hallmark of his later persona.

Thanks once again Huntermc! Loving the Revenge vid! Also, as to the Minneapolis show - I love Shay Jones’ live vocals, and Al’s guitar-playing is interesting. He seemed to be a fan of “harmonics” at that point, and it really changes the dynamic of many of the songs; especially “I’m Falling,” his guitar work changes it from a punk tune to a nearly poppy dirge…again, interesting. And “Just Kidding?” ! Why have I never heard of this before? I’m familiar with “Overkill,” but it doesn’t have that cool little intro to it, which I really dig.
Also…since Voidhead is Paul Barker’s #1 fan, I’ll take up the number two position. However, (don’t shoot me) Brad Hallen is a better bassist than Paul. Just comparing sheer skill, Brad would’ve won out in the end. I love Paul for being interested in the electronic side of things, but Brad could really play! Awesome vid!

ok, i’d take #3 on barker fanboys then

yeah brad could play… but paul had sound. check out step and kaif. or crumbs. or lava. what i know about brad is that he did a few slap lines in two or three ministry tunes, big deal. i think paul also can play, it just wasn’t that apparent in ministry. similar to slipknot bassist story. or something.

ok I’m like REALLY low on hd space and I’m running out of options (no more things to delete! ) It’ll be quite some time before I get a new HD

is it possible that a kind soul here can put these old live show/videos on DVD and I’d kindly pay whatever I have to? if anyone is up for it, PM me and thanks [cool]

Dammit!
Somebody give SKot a place to host the SOM video now!

Thanx to anyone who does the job!

i gave him the ftp details, he should upload it. problems are:

  • at some point he had trouble to login
  • then he succeeded but left it at night to upload and it crapped out on 80% or something
  • he tried to reupload it, the file is there, it’s 47k only because fuckin’ ftp started glitching again

i think in time he will succeed finally. after all, SKot is on dial-up, so it takes long time.

after it’s done i’ll either post links here or maybe give it to huntermc so he could torrent it.

i myself can’t wait to see it.

Yeah! Looking forward to it myself!
Thanks for putting up with the headaches of dial-up, guys. It’s MUCH appreciated.

SKot is definately cool guy, he’s 1/3 done on the uploading. i really HOPE ftp would work ok and he will succeed in finishing the upload in couple of days.

here are some screenshots (from the 1 minute i managed to see from the incomplete file)

nice…can’t wait. [laugh]

Looks great, doesn’t it? [:)] It’s a rather dark video, one that I think even Uncle Al could almost be proud of, even if he was wearing eyeliner. Frankly, I’ll bet a large number of us would take a hundred albums like this over every album Ministry has produced since Psalm 69.

Quality is very good. And remember, that’s the DivX compressed version.

I’ll keep trying on the upload; I really want this video to get out there. I hate being stuck on dial-up currently… but that will change soon.
