To answer the original question, my favorites would be geared towards the early years by far, so to keep it spread out, I’ll limit it to one or two from each tour:
5/18/82 Chicago - The second earliest show known to be out there. It’s short, but has great quality sound.
7/10/82 Detroit - The definitive boot from the early days. Great quality and a heap of tracks that never gotreleased. This is the one that got me into collecting bootlegs way back when.
7/20/83 Minneapolis DVD - Only recommended if you can score the upgraded version that surfaced a few years ago. There are multiple versions of this out there that are absolute crap. Not as good sound quality or performance as the early recordings, but it’s the only full gig out there from the WS tour, oddly enough.
10/24/84 Minneapolis - This is the best quality boot from the post-WS Wax Trax days. Poor sound quality but better than any of the others out there from this period. Has reworkings of a few older tracks and a couple unreleased tracks.
4/10/86 Toronto - I unearthed the definitive, pre-broadcast version of thi a few years ago. Beautiful soundboard professional recording of an early date of the Twitch tour.
6/6/86 Chicago - Not quite as pristine-sounding as the Toronto date, but still great-sounding. This one has several unreleased songs as well.
5/1/87 Houston DVD - The only boot from this tour. Pretty rough, but worth it for the songs that were never performed live again.
12/16/88 New York - Commercially released as “House Of Bones”. This is a nice soundboard recording of the Land tour. It would be the definitive boot from the tour, if it weren’t incomplete.
10/31/88 San Francisco - There are quite a few similar-quality boots from this tour (12/11/88, 12/20/88, etc). I’d pick San Francisco over the others becaused of the unique setlist (with Lard).
2/13/90 Omaha - The most-bootleged Ministry show. If you have a silver boot, it’s probably got this show on it. It’s a nice, soundboard show from this tour, though ofthen incomplete.
12/31/89 Chicago and 2/22/90 Merriville - Not as good sound quality, but both have terrific setlists.
9/4/92 New Orleans or 9/12/92 Irvine - The best sounding 2 shows I’ve been able to turn up from Lolla. Frankly, most recordings from this tour sound like crap. These 2 are a bit better, but nothing stellar.
12/27/92 Los Angeles - There are several good recordings from this tour, but this one’s probably the best and the easiest to find.
10/1/94 and 10/2/94 Mountainview - These are the 2 accoustic sets for the Bridge School Benefit. Decent sound and very different.
6/14/96 Hultsfred and 7/5/96 Kristiansand - Noth really nice sounding shows from the Filth Pig tour. There are several other good ones, and of course the official live album, so you have a lot to pick from here.
8/27/99 Dallas - The best recording from the Dark Side tour. There are a couple others that come close, but overall there aren’t many good recordings from this tour.
4/18/03 Dallas and 4/30/03 Niagra - Both pretty good. Really the fans stepped up and booted the crap out of this tour, so there are many others to pick from.
10/20/04 New York - There’s a soundboard version of this out there recorded for XM. There were several other decent audience versions of shows as well that have a little better feel to them because you can hear the crowd better, but I usually go for soundboard if there out there.
7/7/06 Atlanta DVD - Perfect quality, great shot. Sadly the weaker material makes this and everything after it not worth watching.
And if you’re looking for a recommendation on the 2008 tour, I won’t be much help. Sorry.
Hope these help.
