Ministry set featuring WS and LORAH

I was poking around on the tour page last night, and saw this set list from '84. I know I’d seen it before, but never really thought about this: Ministry basically plays at least one song from Cold Life, WS, the Wax singles, Twitch, and LORAH at this show. With the addition of two unreleased songs and the Fad cover, it’s a pretty unique set…played at a high school no less!

Date: Friday, December 14th, 1984
City: LaGrange, IL
Venue: Lyons Township High School

Do You Really Like It (unreleased)
Cold Life (Cold Life)
Nature Of Love (12" Single)
Revenge (WS)
Halloween (12" Single)
I’ll Do Anything For You (unreleased)
Work For Love (WS)
Here We Go (WS)
Ricky’s Hand (FG cover)
I’m Falling (Cold Life)
Hizbollah (LORAH)
All Day (12" Single and Twitch)

There were one or two more gigs like this one, and in hindsight, it’s quite an anomaly for Ministry.

Another gig of interest is the Merriville show from '90. Including the opener, KMFDM, fans basically got to hear songs from 8 different bands that night: Ministry, RevCo, Pailhead, Lard, Skinny Puppy, KMFDM, P.I.L., and Jello Biafra (from his spoken word album). Kinda nuts. If Al really wanted, he could have that kind of variety on this last tour.

You wish. Or dream. I would have loved that too. Perhaps on the next tour? (tee hee).

Believe me, I’m not fooling anyone with that idea! [;)]

yes!! hizbollah used as an opener/intro - without the “vocals”… in 84! land of rape and honey wasn’t even out yet in four years! and the Do You Really Like It is actually “Even Like It”, i guess bisquit didn’t change the page. it was once featured as a song of the week. these few 84 gigs were supposed to be final “WS songs send-off” shows… something like a transition from WS era to his 12" singles era.

i just got toronto '86 bootleg and the setlist is amazing!

over the shoulder, my possession, we believe, no devotion, isle of man/where you at now, all day, halloween, just like you!! the recording is incomplete as it seems, because Al says “you are very nice people and we’re gonna play for another half hour maybe more maybe less and the first one is called Just Like You”… i guess Ricky’s Hand, Eyes Of Christ and one more song probably didn’t get to tape.

and man, does he SING on this one! why does he have to bark every song now…?

and come to think of it, LORAH included alot of “Twitchy” stuff… that’s why it’s great

That '86 gig is my favorite Ministry boot, but the one cringing detail from that show is the harmonizer effect Al uses on My Possession and All Day (maybe other songs). Sounds like his harmony is one of the Chipmunks, ugh! Crying shame that a soundboard Eyes Of Christ didn’t make it on there.

the harmonizer isn’t the problem, problem that it’s too loud!! the harmonizer or whatever that fx is is also used on some studio versions of All Day, but much much quieter than the main vocals… or maybe it’s me. same thing about My Possession.

as for new tours setlist, it’s been discussed to death and we all know there would be no surprises there… and the last overall good and balanced setlist was during the Fornicatour.

Does anyone know if Al & the gang ever played Ricky’s Hand all of the way through? From the version I’ve got (the Minneapolis video from '83), they just play a minute or so of Ricky’s Hand and don’t do the entire song and full lyrics. A shame, really, as that’s one of my top Fad Gadget/Frank Tovey songs ever.

Finding out several years ago that Al covered Ricky’s Hand ALMOST left me as speechless as when I heard Trent do “Sex Dwarf”.

Thanks to Bisquit for originally sharing.

Too bad that one’s not going to be on Cover Up.

Speaking of Cover up, how many times will Al’s uber-fans be expected to pay money for a cover of Supernaut?

Too bad that one’s not going to be on Cover Up.

Too bad there’s going to be a cover up. Hasn’t he drug the Ministry name through the mud enough allready?!

probably that would be the final nail in the coffin of ministry. next? revolting cocks - which is already damaged by horrendous cocked and loaded and cocktail mixxx releases - why, let’s release another album and revco covers album with - very original name - cover IT up!

oh boy.

Crossing fingers for luc van acker. Cocked and Loaded was absolutely horrible, had a song or two that i’d put in my rotations. The remix for it isn’t as bad, I don’t think. More bearable than the original. But it’ll likely be the same routine for the next revco. I actually bought cocked and loaded…

I like Cocked & Loaded, but I can certainly see how most people don’t. Still, this new one’s supposed to have the Stayte guys on it and (presumably, based on his participation in the tour and remix album) Van Acker, so it sounds like it should be a superior record right out of the gate.
