I have it on good authority that Sphinctour, Animositisomina, and House of the Mole will be reissued by Dissonance on March 10, 2017.
if only Animositisomina is a different mix and different master, which it probably wouldn’t be
Still can’t figure out why they don’t reissue ICYDFLSU on DVD/BluRay.
looking back at the way past reissues were made, somehow it makes me think that Al (or w/e) doesn’t have the rights or something for SIRE/Warner stuff.
Aren’t Animositisomina and Houses of the Molé the only Ministry albums that have never existed on vinyl? Seems like a wasted opportunity if the 2017 reissue is CD only.
issuing them on vinyl won’t make them sound better.
animositisomina mix is so bad, you can hear so much high frequency distortion, it’s unbearable. and when any song starts its just constant max volume. most obvious is “Piss”, so much clipping.
when you turn such albums up in volume they sound like shit. when you turn up Mind or Psalm, they are pumping.
in fact i would say starting from Filth Pig the sound quality was getting worse and worse, i guess Al’s tinnitus was progessing but also due to loudness wars no doubt.
what i would want to see is this trilogy of albums, Filth Pig, DSOTS and Animositisomina re-released without the overcompressed and over-limited squished dynamics. but that ain’t gonna happen ever.
i dont think Animositisomina had any outtakes or b-sides.
Houses of the Mole had…one? called Bloodlines, a So what self-ripoff (on purpose i guess).
i’m not sure that aternate/update mixes of Unsung and some Mole tracks were made during those albums, they could’ve been made during Rantology
There’s outtakes for sure. And Animositisomina would look cool on vinyl at least…that was the last decent album and decent art design and packaging. Orange vinyl? Count me in

Maybe unbearable is what they were going for. I think it’s kinda neat that Ministry made a rock album mixed like a harsh noise album.

There are? If so, let me know and I’ll update my KB thread.
From what I could gather, both Animositisomina and Houses had outtakes from previous albums recycled into those albums. I know the former had some DOTS era songs that were re-purposed, and Houses reused the music of “Lion’s Mouth” for “Worthless”.

that’s what people said about shit sound of metallica’s “death magnetic” as well.
I don’t think they were going for that, IMO it was just combo of loudness wars and Al’s ‘super treble’ mixing preferences. I think Max Brody was asked about sound of that album and he said like “I duno, as soon as we were done recording, mixing was all done by Al”. I’m not sure Barker was even there during the mixing.

that happens all the time. according to Al, Bad Blood is a riff he had way back in “Mind” days. As for Animositisomina, you can hear early version of Lockbox playing at some point in AI movie.

good catch! not all the music, but just that 2-note D-Eb ‘drone’ riff that happens at the end, i see what you mean. and to be fair, Worthless has alot of additions.
I remember an interview with Barker when Animositisomina came out where someone asked him why it sounded like that and he said something like “Who says rock albums always have to be mixed the same way?”
Well, anybody with functioning ears, Paul.
if the mix on Animositisomina was done exclusively by Al, then Paul must have found it very inspiring; the mix on Flowering Blight is very similar, at least. I like the sound on both these albums, sans the “Piss” track which sounds completely destroyed (and not in a good way).
one thing is some sound manipulation and distortion, other thing is compressing and limiting the shit out of the mix, producing digital clipping. hell, psalm69 album has distortion all over the place. compared to sound of Animositisomina, stuff like Corrosion/Grace sounds pleasant, and these tracks are nothing but distorted guitars and even distorted drums and distorted samples!
compared to Psalm69, Animositisomina has twice less the dynamic range (on average). that’s what has this tiring effect to the ears.
I don’t think the mix is to blame for this, however ever since Psalm/Pig the albums were getting more and more trebly. the problem is most likely the mastering.
needless to say, recent Nine Inch Nails re-releases of Broken, TDS and Fragile are coming out on vinyl, but are already available in digital format, are squished to shit as well. at the same time Reznor is making these claims oh my god vinyl so great, sound quality, blahblahblah, listening experience.
yeah. overcompressing to latest loudness war trends is anything but sound quality.

I think therein lies the problem of mixing for a lot of rock acts. Paul’s and Al’s hearing are likely compromised by touring with a band as loud as Ministry for decades, which wouldn’t allow for adequate recovery time between noise assaults. If they’re the ones with the final say in every stage of production, then they’re probably going to put out an audio product that favors whatever limited frequency range they’re still sensitive to.
