Ministry MP3

Yeah when I went to Pakistan in January, I saw loads of these types of MP3 CDs (I have seen the writing in Russian and Urdu on these CDs). There are shops that just sell DVDs where you can’t even tell if it’s original or not. Here’s a picture I snapped:

The MP3 CDs are usually ripped in decent quality. I didn’t see one for Ministry but I was looking more at the DVD sections…

How did you know they were boots? I thought different countries got different packaging and such for DVDs…wonder where they get the press to make them? I’ve got several cdr boots that are only available as cdrs I’d love to get them pressed with the glossy artwork and silver bottoms. home printers laser or not aren’t nearly as nice nice as the professional presses for inserts . Also the blue ink of cdrs bug the living shit out of me as well as the stickers you can buy for the disc itself. Love to know where these people get the cds and how they get the art onto the discs themselves.

Without having to pay royalties and such to different production companies the costs of manufacturing these discs probably make them highly profitable.

How do I know they were boots? They were under a $1 each and many just had the title written on the CD. In countries (mainly third world), where piracy is rampant, it’s almost impossible to find the originals and if you do, who the hell is going to pay full price for it? People in Pakistan would rather pay $1 for a DVD rather than a full $15-20 (converted, that goes further there) for the same digital copy.

a buck huh? thats a deal. yeah i think that would probably be pirated
but then that begs the question… If these countries are so poor what do they play these dvds on? Their pirated computer or pirated DVD players???
Don’t take this as me saying your lying cause I’m certainly not. Just makes me wonder about the production of some of these things.

The ones I saw and even bought over there (because it’s not breaking the law over there to do so) were straight DVD copies so no quality loss or anything. You can’t tell the difference. It isn’t some dude sitting there burning DVD copy one after another. They have massive manufacturing plants…

A lot of times they would get the names of the songs wrong, though. For example, I remember this one guy getting all pissed off because he bought some country tape and one of the songs was labeled “Don’t rock the jackbox.” I’m not sure why I still remember that but it makes me laugh everytime I think about it.

well if you ever get stuck on a band name or what to call a song, go bootleg shopping

Although not illegal over there, I am pretty sure it is illegal to bring them back home with you. But, that’s just a technicality. I still have some of my UAE tapes.

Yeah it is. In fact, customs in Pakistan will not let you leave the country with bootleg CDs if they find some on you…

“Don’t Rock the Jackbox.”

YES.

When I went to Peru a few years back I was able to find bootleg Playstation games for 5-7 Peruvial soles apiece…about only $1.50-$2.00 American!

I could imagine they had to have hacked PS2’s in order to play them. Because those bootleg games didn’t work on my Playstation back home. I had to download an emulator and pop 'em into a computer to make them work.

Most of the time they did work. With the exception of the Twisted Metal 1-4 compilation that didn’t, everything panned out fine [;)]

Stainless Steel Pounders anyone?

The track listing for ‘Animositisomina’ is completely wrong. I just noticed that at a glance. Came into this thread out of boredom.

yeah and some other album’s tracklist is in wrong order too. not a problem, the files are probably ok. well, it’s pirate release, so mistakes are common features.

These kinds of albums were quite popular about a decade ago here in Poland, when piracy was not as closely watched by the law as it is now. I think it was basically the same deal as fake Rolexes and Nikes imported from Russia, Bulgaria and Romania.
