They are actually playing together at a number of Australian dates.
I saw Godflesh last April before either of the new releases were out, so the set list was basically a best of. But focused on the early years. It’s back to basics: Justin and Ben + the machine. And it was heavy.
Ministry is doing what they’ve done for years. I may have hated Relapse, but the last time I saw them in 2012, it was a blast.
Ministry…well lets just say that the fans who saw them last time around in Oz @ splinter shows and BDO will be hugely disappointed with the decline in live quality…however any “new” fans will probably just be in awe to hear music at that volume and see Al in person.
The last time I saw Ministry was the Last Sucker tour…I had a great time but the actually performance and sound etc was horrendous. I couldn’t even tell what song it was until the shouting began. When I saw Ministry in Sydney @ Selena’s in Jan 95 it was the greatest show I’d seen at that point. The sound was just so clean & loud…they were tight as hell and in their prime. They were quite simply possibly the greatest live act on the planet at that point.
Neither band are what they used to be and there’s no pretending any other way. Although I really liked the last Godflesh album and hope they play some of that shit live.
With Ministry, although I detested Relapse and Beer, the Bush trilogy, in retrospect, isn’t all THAT bad.
I’m sure you’ll have your pants blown off and have a great time.
Just don’t expect any Filth Pig or Dark Side material to be aired. It just won’t happen.
Well, that was a given, but I hope those weren’t the only pre-2004 tracks. Looking forward to seeing the setlist. I’m guessing that whole “new album played in its entirety” idea was likely forgotten 10 minutes after it was announced.
They are following the pattern of the last few years. A couple songs from the new album, then a couple songs from each album going back through the recent discography. Some of those songs have changed slightly.
The encore will be the old songs, and some of those have been changed too. There are a couple surprises.
Will it please everybody? Of course not. But if you still enjoy seeing Ministry live, there will be some surprises for you.
