Ministry Chicago Concert Review in the Sun Times

Pete, a friend, cut out the Ministry concert review by Jim Derogatis, which was in the Chicago Sun Times (May 10 2008). It was rated “Somewhat recommended”.

Snippets:

“Would it really have been too much to ask for some nod to those early singles with the pioneering and now sadly defunct Chicago Wax Trax! label? To sample more from groundbreaking albums such as “The Land of Rape and Honey” (1988) and “Dark Side of the Spoon” (1999), or to present a few special guests who made particular contributions to the group, first and foremost longtime bassist Paul Barker?”

“But if this was really goodbye, it would have been nice to do more to acknowledge the segment of the audience that remembers Ministry before Ministry went mainstream”

“As always, it was a good night’s fun and games. But it was nothing that anyone hadn’t heard before”.

“The message: Fascism and capitalism-uber-alles are bad! Thinking for yourself is good! Now hand over more than 40 dollars a ticket, please, while we play on auto pilot”.

ouch.

This review is all the more harsh, because I know
for a fact that Jim DeRogotis is a big ministry fan!
he even interviewed Al on his show Sound Opinions
(www.soundopinions.org) when Houses of the Mole
came out.

The fallout from this “farewell tour” is gonna hurt his future sales.
What the hell was Al thinking when he put this tour together… “Foot meet gun…”

two things:
#1 Al just doesn’t care cause he’s not touring any more so, what “future sales” will it hurt?
#2 Maybe all of the bitching will light a fire under his ass and put together an actual farewell tour where he gives the fans what they want, not really an out of retirement tour just a “Tour Encore” if you will, Here’s for hoping!

Maybe this tour was the farewell tour for the PA kids/ “new” Ministry fans and the real one is being worked on as we type…

Yeah, Dero even said it in a nice way. The Trib really had a mean review.

i believe the review said the band were on autopilot.

Read again, it trashes the whole show and I can’t totally disagree. I actually enjoyed 2004 with the Mole album front and center and Jello coming in for some Lard. Different and I hadn’t seen it in a while.

As far as this show, it wasn’t just the song selection. Then again, Ministry live has always been a hit or miss affair.
