What a great show…set & sound quality. Al mentions “and now for something entirely different”. Is he talking about the band before him or is this a partial setlist? The keys are so good…three of them playing. Was one keyboardist responsible for the bass line or did they switch? Stephen also plays so well…no mistakes and he needs to act as a program drummer…most bands that played this style had no live drummer.

Yeah, I had no idea Stephen could actually drum, I was impressed. As for the bass parts I’m not sure who that would be, or why he says “And now…”
Maybe he was a Monty Python fan?

It was a show sponsered by a local radio station, so they probably had some different kind of group opening. One of the members of this board was there, so perhaps he could expound.

General rule of thumb back then was…

If the bass sounds sequenced, as it is in “Revenge” or “Same Old Madness” for example, then Al would program it and control it. If the bass sounds played, like on “Overkill”, then Roberts played it.

The exception on for that show would have been “Primental” (‘I Wanted to Tell Her’ w/o vox). Al played keyboard bass. Roberts played the melodic bits.

Davis played the string-like parts usually.

And, yep. Stevo was a really, really good drummer.

thanks for the info…were you at that show?

thanks for the info…were you at that show?

I was.

i have only 6 songs off that show/boot, is that all that available? if not, anyone feels like sharing the full set on soulseek?

6 songs is the full show. Short but sweet.

Six songs were selected for the radio show that broadcasted it a couple of weeks later. The actual show was a full set, probably 10 songs or so.

The reason it sounds as good as it does is because it was recorded using a remote truck with a 24tr machine in it and mixed a couple of days later. The same company that supplied the truck, MetroMobile Recording, is still in business today and does almost all of the shows on WXRT’s Concert program still.

Is it possible that the entire show still exists on tape somewhere?

Perhaps, but I’ve never been able to find a copy. And trust me, I’ve looked.
