This release has finally been done right. Third times a charm, I guess.

I love the track order on this compared to Early Trax. Nice to see “Cold Life” making it’s return along with an official release of “Same Old Madness” after 30+ years.

i wonder what version of Same Old Madness is included there?
the one in the video (3:42), or the reworked alternate version (5:59)?

I was wondering this as well. If they are using the video version, hopefully they have a better source than just ripping the audio from the video itself.

I’m hoping they include the later version, but I’d be happy with either.

in all fairness, it should have both as a special bonus, because everything else was released previously already

In a perfect world. The second version technically is during the Arista period, but I’m not sure if they hold any rights on it.

true, but in the perfect world this comp would also have the arista singles as well

and im sure theres some unreleased shit still

distinctly remember reading some interview with al circa animositisomina era, back then he was capsing all the time

and he said something “I HAVE WALL FULL OF TAPES” (of unreleased stuff)

He does. Or at least did back then when a friend went down there to meet Al and Paul. Probably still does. No idea why he doesn’t do anything with them.

While this is probably true, Al’s constant exaggeration during interviews always makes me doubt him now until I get hard evidence of something…"fuckin MOUNTAINS of COKE, maaannn! / “we’re gonna have FIFTY GUITAR PLAYERS on the tour, man!” etc. etc.

This is probably true. He did throw in some nice surprises back in 2004 for Early Trax though.

Twelve Inch Singles had two versions of Nature of Love. Early Trax had three. This has four. Is that just an extra version from a 12" variant or something?

nature of love - is the original track

nature of love (cruelty mix) - is the original remix on the vinyl 12" single, which is basically a twisted loop, but with some ongoing sample variations

nature of love (cruelty mix b) - is the same as (cruelty mix), but with extra 25 seconds of intro added

nature of outtakes - is a completely different remix, available on halloween remix 12"

now, so far:

nature of love [the original] - was released on 12" single, on twelve inch singles comp, and on early trax comp

nature of love (cruelty mix) - was released on 12" single

nature of love (cruelty mix b) - was released on twelve in singles comp, and early trax comp (BUT as just 'cruelty mix, adding to the confusion)

nature of outtakes - was released on halloween remix single, on early trax comp

so i dunno why in the fuck they’d include both cruelty mix versions there, as its the same stuff

also, looking at the tracklist i see that CD1 is basically the original twelve inch singles, so you might notice it has two versions of all day:

all day
all day remix

but original twelve inch singles comp had “remix b”, which is a bit different from “remix” (which was on twitch).

way to be fucking confusing!!
i guess we have to wait and see (or hear), what’s really there.

oh yea, this is so true actually

Given his absolute disregard for anything he recorded more than five years before whatever the present date is, I’m surprised he hasn’t just thrown all that shit in a dumpster.

I wonder the same. Really hope it’s the reworked version w/guitar. The video version makes me cringe somewhat.

I almost prefer the video version in the same way one might grow attached to a cassette version of an album that gets warped, slowed down, etc. as time goes on. It isn’t anywhere near as clean the 5:59 version but something about the muddiness, less production, focus primarily on the synths…I like them both.

Thanks, Gila! Thorough response, and exactly what I wanted to know.

This album is up on Spotify now and SAME OLD MADNESS is marked at 5:59.

It’s the version that was recently released. Sounds much cleaner. Slower too.

you can see the waveform on spotify, is the release overcompressed in dynamic range?
