So is it being put on by Phil Anselmo, or is it someone else doing it? He should bring The Illegals as well, that would be an amazing show!

I agree there…

No, Phil is not the organizer.
Bruce Corbitt has done most of the work for this, along the Scaccia family.

They’re trying to keep an annual thing and tie it with the newly created foundation in Scaccia’s name.

Last year’s birthday bash for Mikey was a big success (Goatwhore was the “main” act that time) and they will continue to try and get one larger name to headline each year and have other Scaccia-related acts or local bands on support.

It’s a good cause, and Bruce is actually doing a great job at communicating what the charity actually is and the purpose.

I’ll put the background stuff up later, but figured people mostly want to know about “who’s playing? where? when?”

Sounds like a great event, good for Bruce!

Below is some info about why we are doing these future concerts… and the Heart Foundation Mike’s family is starting in his name.

Mike Scaccia died doing what he loved to do. But if he would have known the “signs” and “symptoms” of heart disease… he could have found out in time for them to be able to do something about it. He would still be with us today.

Mike’s family has brought me on board to help with the Mike Scaccia “Heart Rock” Foundation… with the intentions of bringing awareness to Heart Disease. They are trying to do something good with this tragedy. The goal is not only to keep Mike’s name and legacy alive. But to also hopefully save some lives too.

So they want to get this foundation launched with this 1st Annual Mike Scaccia “Rock The Heart” Concert. The official website will be up and running soon too. Below is more info on what they plan to do with this foundation.

How will the foundation contribute to heart disease research and awareness?

It is important to know what heart disease is. Many people associate the disease with simply high blood pressure and high cholesterol that most prominently occurs in middle-aged adults. While these may be common symptoms, heart disease can come in a much broader package consisting of many other debilitating factors, including various types of infections of the heart.

The Mike Scaccia “Heart Rock” Foundation is ready to raise fundamental awareness to people around the world about these dangers. With the right funding we will be able to spread this information to kids in schools, people at work or home and sponsor public events, explaining the importance of a healthy diet, adequate exercise and how it all affects your hearts health. The key to prevention is knowledge. The word MUST get out. Heart disease really is the “silent killer,” for men, women and people of all ages. By raising funds primarily through music and hosting events and concerts, we hope to rock the message loud and clear!

What services might foundation support/provide?

The MSHRF would like to eventually team up with larger organizations such as the American Heart Association to support research and continue educating the public on causes and symptoms of heart disease. Free testing funded by the foundation will also be sponsored at most events. Heart disease can start with a deformed heart as early as birth or can develop with age, therefore reaching all demographics is imperative and can be done with the right resources. Providing a fun, active atmosphere for people to get information and free testing is the foundations main objective. Links to hospitals and physicians will also be provided.

Heart Disease: Scope and Impact
Heart disease is the number one cause of death for both men and women in the United States, claiming approximately 1 million lives annually.

Every 33 seconds someone in the United States dies from cardiovascular disease which is roughly the equivalent of a September 11th-like tragedy repeating itself every 24 hours, 365 days a year.

More die of heart disease than of AIDS and all cancers combined.

By 2020, heart disease will be the leading cause of death throughout the world.

This year more than 920,000 Americans will have a heart attack; nearly half of them will occur without prior symptoms or warning signs.
