Mike Scaccia Guitar Clinic in Santa Monica Last Night

went to the Mike Scaccia Gibson Guitar Clinic at TrueTone Music in Santa Monica last night 6.20.12.

Mike played quite a bit on different electric guitars accompanied by backing tracks including a version of Machine Gun by Jimi Hendrix/Band of Gypsies. He had the studio tapes of a recording session and removed Jimi’s guitar parts so he could play along to it. very cool.

Also had an acoustic segment without backing track which was great, I’d never heard him without effects or alongside a band before.

Spoke at length about Gibson guitars, his musical heroes including Les Paul (i’m forgetting the other guys he mentioned right now), and told some stories about learning music as a youth.

Mentioned a few Ministry songs along the way - said he likes his solos on Ghouldiggers and Hero, Unfortunately he confirmed Hero is not part of the setlist for now.

Talked about the Buck Satan and 666 Shooters album, said he’s really proud of that one. I’m going to search it out on his recommendation.

Overall a very informative, relaxed and interesting evening with (one of) the longest standing members of the band. I’m happy I went.

If i recall anything else, I’ll add it to this post.

How many people were there? He told me they were giving away like 6 tickets (or maybe pairs or tickets, I don’t remember) and a guitar, too (though, now that I think about it, I’m guessing the guitar is probably that combined raffle with all the other clinics.)

When he did a clinic in Hollywood in April it was pretty lightly attended, so I was thinking if anyone didn’t have tickets already, they’d probably have a pretty good shot at winning.

there were maybe 15 people there plus the store’s staff

they gave away 4 pairs of tickets and a guitar, i didn’t win any of the prizes - i will likely have an extra ticket for tonight’s club nokia show however.

i remembered some of the other guitarists names he mentioned who he looks up to/admires: billy gibbons and jeff beck

That’s cool you got to go, though (and at least you have a ticket).

I’m sure he can list off a bunch more but I know specifically Scaccia loves Beck, Gibbons, Hendrix, and Les Paul. He recently said Les Paul is his most influencial and all time favorite.

i know, i was happy that it happened there as opposed to hollywood bc i live in santa monica.

only minor regret is i didn’t bring anything to get signed. after the raffle i sped home to get my psalm 69 and houses of the mole cds but they had taken off by then. i also grabbed the sphinctour dvd but now i’m reading he wasn’t a part of that tour. that would have been embarrassing

He wouldn’t have cared.
