I love both Swans and Larkin Grimm as musicians, but I guess I feel more comfortable with Grimm being a mentally ill liar than I do with Gira being a scumbag who tries to fuck passed out chicks.
As an aside, Gira’s wife’s post is the same sort of unhinged word salad I’ve seen from Mrs. Barker and the ex Mrs. Jourgensen. Musicians shouldn’t let their wives talk, I guess.
The fact that Grimm takes this to the Fakebook court of public opinion before actually pressing charges (I’m assuming this is the case?) isn’t particularly flattering.
As is the talking-out-of-both-sides-of-the-mouth nature of her posting. She is already backpedaling, claiming she “doesn’t want to see [Gira] destroyed,” but is attempting to do just that? And that her original post was just intended to stoke some vague discussion about “rape culture”?
I normally despise the overly litigious nature of this country, but Gira has clear grounds for suing for slander.
I see you guys are both convicting the man on the basis of the federal Peligro Act of 2016 to allow, quote “any musicians liked by Peligro” to be tried as “enemy combatants” and therefore placed in indefinite detention without formal charges.
For shame. I will be contacting my people at the ACLU immediately.

I wouldn’t consider suing someone for publicly making false rape accusations to be “overly litigious”. I think such demonwhores deserve all the pain that’s coming to them.
I’m a Gira and Swans fan, so I would be really disappointed if it’s true. That said, among the parts of her story that didn’t track - to me - was her buying in to his promises to make her a star. Really, Michael Gira? Maybe he’s the guy that helps you gain a cult following, but c’mon don’t you want Danger Mouse or that douchebag from the Black Keys to produce your shit and make you a “star”.

Totally would draw more attention to the situation too

Gira has some skill as a taste maker or ‘conferrer of prestige’ or whatever, but…yeah, who in their right mind would expect 4-5 star hotel accommodations and $150 per diems for food/drink on the strength of being connected with him. Swans, for all their hard-earned acclaim and their loyal long-term fan base, were still touring in a van the last time I saw them.
And if ‘PRODUCED BY MICHAEL GIRA’ is the first thing you have to mention in your press kit, ahead of anything else that makes your work unique or memorable, that’s another problem.
Gira is certainly a man with the potential to be a total and complete asshole - listen to “You See Through Me” for some quick proof - but Grimm is also the chick that’s got “flake” written all over her.
I’m going to have to reserve judgment on this one.
Gira seems to be defending himself pretty powerfully, may be a sign that he may be telling the truth and that he’s fuckin pissed.
Rape accusations are no joke tho. If Gira did in fact do it he needs to spend some time in the booty pumping department (jail).[/reply]
Although I don’t think it has any bearing on this case, Gira has already done jail time on some type of drug charge, but not in the U.S. (I believe it was in Israel actually). This was ages ago, prior to his musical career really beginning.
Edit: Finally brought myself to read Gira’s wife’s full post, and agree that it had a very grating Gerda-like tone to it.
I’m not trying to influence anyone’s opinion or anything, and I’m not saying he did or didn’t rape that woman.
But he raped me.
For reals.
And you haven’t posted this on Facebook yet? Better hop to it, I hear this is about the time when the district attorney checks everybody’s status updates and decides who to prosecute.
He raped me last night. I’m told I should follow standard protocol and wait at least 4 years before reporting it on FB.
I thought there was something a little creepy about the crudely scrawled “M.G. + GUNNAR…FOREVER” that I saw on the wall in the Denny’s restroom last night.
Anyway, yes, you’re right - follow legal protocol and wait four years. I’m in my first semester of law school, I haven’t really wrapped my head around all this stuff yet.
