Metallica!

I don’t like wolfmother (though I can see why older metalheads would) but when Patton asks “What year are we in?”, it’s a bit odd as at the beginning of the clip he talks about doing a record of 60’s Italian music… so go figure… I think he’s just mucking around.

It’s like if you wrote a song called “70s Rock Must Die” and then covered Alice Cooper…

[reply]Fucken-A - Deliverance by COC is a stoner rock classic! If you can set aside your doryphore agita for 2 seconds - you would realize this and give into it with herbal induced glee. It is a whimdiddle of trippin’ trip.

Tried and tried to get into this band…but the whole ‘Southern Rock’ vibe thingy just does not float my boat. Too many ‘whoah yeeeahs’ for my liking.

I did hear that the bassist from C.O.C tried out for the vacancy in Metallica left by J Newstead. That would have been interesting.[/reply]

I’m pretty sure it was Pepper Keenen, the singer/guitarist of CoC and guitarist for Down that tried out.

Metallica is coming to my town for the first time ever, I’m fucking pumped. I’ll be seeing Down for the second time, and I’ll give the sword a chance since I haven’t paid much attention to them and I’ll give almost any band/artist a chance to impress me live.

Yeah…Pepper Keenan. That name does ring a bell. Hmmm.

I remember when Blind came out around 91 / 92. I was going through my Soundgarden are the greatest band ever phase (pffft!! I was only 17 at the time and was only just getting into Ministry amongst other things and knew fuck all about decent music) and decided to check it out - mostly because C.O.C “looked the part”. It didn’t grab me at all. The music was decent, but the vocals and lyrics…meh! I heard they changed vocalists after that.

As for Down, I can’t stand Phil Anselmo so I don’t think I’ll ever bother with them. Not really my cup o’ tea anymore. These days, if I am going to listen to metal at all (which is rare) it will most likely be something along the lines of Burzum or one of the Southern Lord bands (Sunn O))), Leviathan, Xasthur, Earth etc…) or maybe, as a guilty pleasure, one of the albums from the classic Earache label era of the early 90s (Death’s Human or Napalm Death’s Utopia Banished spring to mind).

Whatever you say, James.
Just like George Lucas put less Jar Jar Binks in his next two Star Wars movies because that was the plan all along and not because everyone hated the character.

Weeza People Gonna die??!

haha… love in the Simpsons comic book guy cuddling a jar Jar action figure with the line
“ahh… everybody hates you but me”

Down, I dig down, hopefully gonna see them in a few months when they tour, have only listened to the lastest release a few times, I think down II is the strongest release. To each their own.

Btw Phil is a knob, but so is Al… and manson…and most “rock stars” so whatever.

so metallica put out 3 (in most people’s opinion) bad albums… load, reload, and st anger… and the rest are fucking amazing, and there’s a hesitation to go see them live… as if the band has EVER put on a really bad show… now ministry on the other hand… well…

Pepper himself was pretty close to getting it, but thankfully he bailed out, cause he knew it would stop all the other stuff he wanted to do.

I love Down and was hoping to see them soon, but can’t fucking stand Metallica. So I’ll miss them again. Not going to pay out the ass to metallica and for a hotel and stuff to see Down play like 6 songs far away from me in a big show. Happy for their success, pissed at the same time. Maybe they’ll squeeze some headlining shows in between.

interesting riff.

So I was getting hammered with my uncle a few days ago, and as we’re listening to the Metallica channel on XM, they whip out something off Death Magnetic: an unusually bass-heavy number called “Cyanide.” It’s a lot punkier than anything they’ve done (save the Garage Days stuff, I guess).

I like it, and I eagerly anticipate the rest.

The MercyfulFate medley is perfect. I can listen to that all day.

as much as I like to bag on their new material - cuz it’s mostly bad, they are a GREAT cover band. That new Iron Maiden cover on the magazine freebie disc is excellent. The full version of Remember Tomarrow is on the youtubes should you be inclined.

They did a hell of a job with the Motorhead covers. [cool]

Not a fan of theirs at all, but I saw somewhere that they covered Killing Joke; The Wait, I think? I’d be curious altogether to hear their take on anything KJ actually.

it’s on Garage, Inc. now, was one of the 5 tracks on the first EP w/ Newsted pre-Justice.

The cover isnt so bad although naturally its hard to beat the original KJ version. The Wait was already kinda a thrash song to begin with, although they didnt have that ‘punchy’ production that Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer etc. had so it sounds wimpy in comparison. Its good that Metallica acknowledged being influenced by the Joke.

But…Killing Joke is good… I’m going to try looking for that track in a little bit. The Wait is an awesome song, so hearing someone covering that makes me very curious. My jaw hit the floor when I discovered fear factory doing Millenium.

The Killing Joke version of The Wait SHITS over Metallica’s without even breaking a sweat. Wimpy in comparison? What a joke!

KJ shit over anything Slayer, Metallica or Anthrax ever puked up!!

KILLING JOKE FOREVER!!!

METALLICA/SLAYER/ANTHRAX FOR-NEVER!!!

When Garage, Inc. them out…it was great…"helpless’ is awesome. I saw that tour too…hehe!

The first single, ‘The Day That Never Comes’ is out on youtube:

It’s freakin’ awful.

'tis freaking awful indeed. cyanide was better than that. Still my ‘hope’ this might not totally suck DIED when I saw the tracklist.

Think I’m gonna pull a Sexo and DL the leak before I pick this up, if at all.

“Cyanide” was pretty nice. Let’s hope the rest of it all balances out.
