I’ll admit it - I don’t get it. I never got the music, the concept, the idea. If anything, I love that there is an audience for this, or at least the background of fucking around with people in real life with this “music”.

I admit, I have only heard Merzbox, and only 5-6 compositions, you read right, out of 500+ tracks were decent to me.

I am not one to fight noise for noise’s sake. It just doesn’t have atmosphere to me.

Any recommendations to anything Merzbow has released that a newbie can get into? I always heard Merzbeat or Merzbuddha was good, but…

I recommend you probably refrain from listening to Merzbow. It’s only going to end in heartache.

I recommend Merzballs, Merzboobs, and Merzbutthole. They’re incredible.

I’ve also heard that the set doesn’t really represent what Merzbow does currently, as those discs were more archival works or something…

Not a big Merzbow guy, mostly just because I just never made the effort, I got into noise through a different vector and explored it along those pathways. I’ve got a little of his stuff, but not a lot.

But seriously, you don’t have to like the noise. More for us.

… and Alice In Chains. Ha! Been using them for a long time as an example of music that just does not stand the test of time. I was way into them when “Facelift” came out. Of course, I was in sixth grade, so that’s my excuse. Shit comes on now and boy howdy do I cringe.

Even worse is the guy I know who still insists they were the greatest band ever. But that’s not the worst thing he’s got going against him. Ah, well.

Have you heard the meat shits? Do they they sound like every other band that has visually shocking/repulsive cover art and intentionally offensive song titles? drop D tuning and a lot of growling lyrics that you can’t understand?
