Yeah Pedestrian Deposit are cool. Different to Merzbow tho’. More subtle. There’s more ‘breathing space’ in their compositions.
The new album ‘Austere’ is a good 'un.
OK, this arrived in the mail on Friday and so I’m currently making my way through all 12 cds.
So far it’s killer. Sounds more like the soundtrack to some creepy 70s horror flick. Not ‘ambient’ in a Brian Eno way. It’s industrial and ethereal - almost kinda like an ambient (early) Throbbing Gristle.
Not what the average listener would expect from Merzbow.
And I’m not kidding when I say that so far it is my favorite 2010 release so far.
The package is superb too.
Let me know if any samples end up on YouTube or something. Sounds like it might be interesting. As for Merbow, in general, though, you can count me in as someone who just doesn’t get it.

Believe me when I say this isn’t your cup of tea Pinz.
Mine arrived just the other day. Packaging is exquisite.
So far I’ve only listened to 4 of the 12 cds but I can tell this is going to be something exceptional. VERY ‘industrial’ sounding. A lot of clanging and banging and tape hiss and what sound like some amplified wire being played by a bow. Definitely not ambient in a new age-y rainforest kind of way. Not as all out heavy as typical Merzbow but don’t go expecting blissful synth excursions.
This is fast becoming a personal favorite.
It just keeps getting better.
Shame that hardly anyone on this board (aside from the usual suspects) is ever going to bother tracking this down.

For about AUS$90 you get 12 cds of choice Merzbow minimalism. I think it’s well worth it.
But I can understand if $90 is just way too much for some folks to waste on music.
Don’t have any regrets about purchasing this. It makes for great late night music and looks pretty to boot.

I looked up what $90 Australian was worth, and was quite surprised to see it is approximately $90 American/Canadian. I was still thinking of it in terms of 10 years ago… so no cheaper Merzbient for me!
At least I have the 3-disc set Another Merzbow Records from earlier this year.
